Talonbane help for SC

By Ikka, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've got a Store Championship in two weeks, and I'm pretty locked into my list except for the upgrades on Talonbane. I can either go normal one-shot killer (Crackshot, Glitterstim) or try to keep him useful for more than one shot (Predator). Any opinions on which would work better? I'm not very up to date on the local meta, as my work schedule doesn't allow me to play with any regularity.

Oh, here's the whole crew-

Talonbane Cobra w/option 1 or 2- 31 pts

Kavil w/Predator and TLT- 33 pts

Syndicate Thug w/TLT- 24 pts

Binayre Pirate- 12 pts

With two Twin Laser Turret Y-wings, you've got the 'extended fight' part of your squad....

They're the biggest part of your squad and the main workhorses - so (in theory) take the option most suited to cover their weak spot. Talonbane with Option 1 is best suited for hanging back and darting in at PS9 to blat someone diving for their blind spot, or else go out ahead to engage an ordnance-carrier before they get shots off. In either case, I'd say Glitterstimm/Crack Shot.

Predator is nice, but unless you've also got points spare to help keep Cobra alive, it's not going to pull its weight compared to the one-use cards.

That was what I was leaning towards, but I guess I just wanted a second opinion. It's my first SC, so I'm a little nervous, especially without knowing too much about the local meta. Thanks for the help. Any other advice on the squad would be great.

I chose Predator on Kavil over giving him Veteran Instincts and both Y-wings Unhinged Astromech, and hopefully that will help him hit more consistently with TLT.

Sounds good. Kavil with predator is hellishly hard to dodge shots from.

I'd put Unhinged Astromechs on the Y-Wings...

Personally I would dump the Binaryn Pirate and Upgrade Talonbane with Glitterstim, Predator and Engine Upgrade. This is my own favorite build with him and frankly the one i have had the most success with.

Maybe this:

Talonbane Cobra (28)

Predator (3)

Cloaking Device (2)

Stygium Particle Accelerator (2)

Syndicate Thug (18)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

R4 Agromech (2)

Trandoshan Slaver (29)

Dengar (3)

4-LOM (1)

Tactician (2)

Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

Talonbane is expensive and a touch fragile, but if they gun for Talonbane first and he's left limping in round 2 of combat, he can cloak up again (75%, anyway) and the other two ships will get a lot of work done thanks to their bonus accuracy. Then, your opponent might find themselves too short on firepower to chew through the remaining 20HP of your Y-Wing and YV-666.

The Slaver also has the ability to take on Imperial Aces here thanks to Tacticican, Dengar and 4-L0M, denying defensive tokens while having superb accuracy. The Engine means it'll double as a stellar blocker, and can get back into position quickly. The TLT, as with most TLTs, is just a workhorse. A big clunkier without the unhinged, but the extra target locks are really great at making that damage stick.

As much as I like that list CBMarkham, there's no way my wife is going to be cool with me getting both the Mist Hunter and Jumpmaster by next Saturday :(

Revised for pre-wave 8 cards. This Talonbane is expensive and squishy, so make sure he does his work before he explodes. Big ka-boom or bust.
