Ghost title-Docking Required for Every Game?

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing Rules Questions

If you have the ghost and phantom title in your list are you able to choose not to dock at the beginning of a match or is that a forced thing?

I'd say you don't have to start off docked. The Gonz for example doesn't have to have TIE's docked on it when it starts out. I can't see how the Ghost would be different.

When exactly do you choose though? PS order? or during the 'put stuff on the table' phase like dual upgrade cards

Actually the card says

Equip the Phantom title card to a friendly Attack Shuttle and dock it to this ship.

It looks required.

Docking clamps on the other hand say 'may'

There is no "you may". I have seen quite a few people on vassal choosing to dock or not dock at shuttle PS. I just wonder what the rules pros think about that. If you HAVE to dock then ghost lists have a distinct inflexibility.

Well looking at that card, if you have the tile then yeah I'd say you have to start off docked. Although I was thinking of the Ghost as a 'generic' name for the VCX-100, like we call the YT-1300 the Falcon.

I didn't read the OP carefully enough. :) Or look at the card for that matter.

But yeah if you have the Ghost tile I think the Attack Shuttle with title or not, has to start off docked. But you could make a list using both the Attack Shuttle and VCX and not have the shuttle start off docked.

The only reason you'd take the Ghost title is because you wanted the Attack Shuttle docked. So I don't see this being an issue. If you don't want the shuttle docked there is no reason at all to take the title.

In a tournament, you either have to start docked for every match (titles) or none (none), I guess.

You don't want it undocked early anyway it'll be focused down first so your ghost has no rear arc making that much easier to handle end game.

You get a stress dealer behind it that's all she wrote.

If you take the Ghost title, you must start docked and the Attack Shuttle must have the Phantom title. If you decided to take the ships into a game undocked, you wouldn't be able to take the Ghost title. You could still take the Phantom title for the Attack Shuttle, but it would be complete redundant if you start the game undocked.

If you don't want them docked, don't take the Ghost title. You can't dock during the match anyways, and the title just gives the bonus attack when docked. Problem solved.

Still don't get the choice, though.

Actually I think the * (instead of 0) cost on the Phantom title is quoted in the rules as meaning you can only equip it as part of the combo.

I think people are trying/wanting to play it like a dual sided card. So if you have a fixed list (like in a tourney), you might want to choose to be docked or not. I don't believe you have that option though.

Yeah, you don't have a choice not to start it docked. I'm not sure why you'd want to give up the Ghost/Phantom special rules for an entire game in the first place, but if you do... just deploy it after the first maneuver. Nobody's getting shot at yet, just undock.

If you have the Ghost title, you have to have a docked Attack Shuttle, and it has to have the Phantom title. Neither of those things are optional. So when you're watching Rebels, any time the ship shows up somewhere and their shuttle is not docked, either because it's off on another mission or because it's flying alongside, just know that's not really the Ghost.

It's still the Ghost, they're just playing a much longer and larger epic game.

The "problem" I was looking at is that in certain matchups I wouldn't want them docked. But it appears it's a choice you make in list-building, not deployment.

If you don't have the phantom docked, you ALREADY don't have a rear arc, so focusing down said phantom doens't change anything.

You can just deploy round 1.

You can, but either he phantom or ghost will be facing the wrong way.

Don't be so negative. You can easily set it up so they're both facing the wrong way!

Well, in all seriousness, it's trivial to set up such that you can deploy and have both ships facing the right way in round 1 if that's the best thing for your list. You just face the Ghost parallel to your setup edge, and both ships do a hard 1 after deploying and undocking..
