Decloaking Timing effects

By Ronu, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So I am curious about timing of these maneuvers:

I am Piloting Echo who is Cloaked and has a recon Specialist.

So can I use the recon specialist first then choose my decloak path? Or does that happen after I decloak? Or can I choose based on what I need given where Echo is?

Hmmmmm you probably won't like this answer.

Cloaking was revamped psuedo recently.

Decloak Reference Card

This card should read:
At the start of the Activation phase, after players have resolved all other
abilities that trigger at the start of the Activation phase, each ship may spend
a cloak token to decloak, starting with the ship with the lowest pilot skill
(using initiative to break ties). When a ship decloaks, it must choose one of the
following effects:
• Perform a barrel roll using the [ 2] maneuver template.
• Perform a boost using the [ 2] maneuver template.
Decloaking is not an action or a maneuver, and a ship can decloak while it has
a stress token.
A ship cannot decloak if it would overlap another ship or an obstacle token, or if
the maneuver template would overlap an obstacle token.
After all decloaking has been resolved, the Activation phase continues as
normal

So instead of decloaking before you reveal your dial, you now decloak at the start of the activation phase (before anyone moves).

So no, you can't perform a focus action (to trigger recon spec) before you decloak because you can't perform any action before decloaking now.

But I kind of have the feeling we're not talking about the same thing. When you say use the recon specialist, do you mean this card?

Recon Specialist

HWK-290 Expansion Pack, TIE Phantom Expansion Pack
When you perform a focus action, assign 1 additional focus token to your ship.

or something else?

I assume you mean an Intelligence Agent.

And yes, you must use Intel Agent first before you decloak, if you're using it at all. You can't use it afterwards.

Recon Specialist is only activated when you perform a Focus action, so this would occur much later than your decloak. Basically, after you've execute the assigned maneuver, checked for stress, then taken a Focus action, Recon Spec will add a Focus token.

Or did you mean to ask this question regarding Intelligence Agent? If so, Int Agent would trigger before you even decloak per page 1 of the FAQ, decloaking occurs after all other abilities that trigger at the start of the activation phase. So you'd be able to look at another ship's dial before you decide to decloak and where.

Ok that makes more sense.

Ah yes intelligence agent, got them reversed thanks for clearing it up.
