I knew they were "listening" in... NEW ARTICLE UP

Can you imagine a pre-nerf whisper paired with a tractor-wielding Vessery? Ugh.

Oh, the shenanigans that would ensue. I'm going to try this.

well Vessery would in every way fire after Whisper, so i see no issue.

True, but the cloak, maneuver, roll, tractor beam, roll again, attack shenanigans is just comical.

If Vessery can get Whisper in Arc, he can definitely hit her with a Locked, Focused, Crack Shot Tractor Beam.

I don't like rebels, I have no knowledge of this inquisitor guy beyond his pilot rules at first I was just going to buy the scum ships.

The TAP is so obviously a good fighter I've ordered three even though the show its from is rubbish.

That says it all.

If you don't know who the inquisitor is, you can't have an informed enough opinion to say the show is rubbish.

My own personal bias is that Rebels is the best Star Wars in _years_. It's very much worth watching.

I give all shows three episodes to convince me if after that point it hasn't then it's clearly not worth sticking with.

The main cast are not heroes they are bullies, the art style is atrocious and the lack of respect for the last 30 years of star wars is appalling.

If you like it that's fine everyone has different tastes but that does not invalidate what's clearly my opinion.

If you've watched 3 episodes and didn't care for it, then yes! by all means, you've got an informed opinion that differs from mine. When you said you didn't know who the Inquisitor was, I made the assumption that you hadn't watched the very first scene of the pilot, which features the Inquisitor getting orders from Darth Vader. IMO, it does a great job at setting the stage for the series, creating tension, and letting us know the central conflict to come.

Your mileage obviously varied. :)

I have to wait until next week for this wave to actually become available, since they've decided to launch on St. Patrick's day; a day in which everything in the country except pubs and tourist traps are shut down. While interesting, I can't help but picture Alex and Frank as the French Taunter in Holy Grail right now, as I read the interview.

Why would you put proton rockets on the Inquisitor?

His ability is great for sniping at range three all game, why risk going to range one just for a procket shot?

More than that: "Using turret ships to run away and fire from outside of arc won't always be as desirable in the future."

Extrapolating this statement from Frank combined with Alex's comment in that recent podcast about his desire to change out of arc shots, we can easily start a rumor that out of arc shots are indeed going to change soon.

I would be very surprised if any retroactive changes were made to (say) the Falcon. I do think the Outrider is well designed- if you want an OOA advantage, you have to pay for it and also take a major downside.

I also _love_ Kavil, as it's fun to try to keep opponents out of arc, as that's where the major advantage comes from. I think that's an interesting design.

I did the same initially. Ironically the show gets a lot better about episode 5 on. It still has its 'groan' moments, but it has more epic moments to make you over look those.

My own personal bias is that the show started out **** and got good within the first season. And now, it's pretty great.

A fair policy.

"Frank: One thing we started to focus on more with Wave VIII was the idea of turret ships that care about arcs."

took ya a whole 3 waves to figure that'd be a good idea eh? oh well, better late than never :P

I would be alllllllllllll for that.

I enjoy they are pushing turret ships towards keeping things in arc, but right now, there's not anything negative pushing them to keep things in arc outside of autothrusters. Dengar's ability doesn't make running from ships and making them chase any worse, it just makes keeping them in arc better. I think attacking the bore of turrets on both fronts is the way to go.

there kinda is, in the case of the more recent ships

for example

  • r3-a2 Y: out of arc capabilities --> no double stress
  • Tactician TLT K-wing: run specifically because the K is so excruciatingly inefficient. Without the tactician trick, it might never have seen play. Mind your arcs!
  • Non-Dengar Jumpsters: cost more than the K but keep the same crap primary; no access to TLTs :o Ordnance or bump or bust; any way you'll care a lot about your facing
  • Dengar: can PWT, but also isn't that great at it. See, unlike Han/Cheri, he doesn't get to action-independent offense and defense mod it up. He kinda needs that in arc shot to be as powerful as he can

this is really the best we can hope for to counteract the incredibly lazy PWT mechanic: make it crap so players actually have to make decisions. You either fly defensively and perhaps give up a great deal of offense, or you do your darndest to use your ships to max efficiency by keeping enemies in arc. It gives the controlling player a variety of options and the opposing player a reason to avoid arcs

To be fair, in that recent podcast they did they mentioned that they're starting work on Wave 10 already, with Wave 8 not even dropped yet. So that kind of time to fix something kind of makes sense if they're already working on things to be released some time next year. Unless we wanted to go to an Armada style wave release and wait over a year between even anything being announced...

I feel a disturbance in my wallet....

I'm caught between

1) Not spending money

2) Expanding on my collection with ships I don't have yet

and

3) Impulse buying all of Wave VIII as soon as it's released.

I have never been so excited for a wave!

Wave VII was very so-so for me but I kind of like this wave. I'm still a little thematic and like balances squads as opposed to spam. Having the bounty hunter ships (even if a couple look foolish) will be nice. Having the Ghost and a couple Inquisitor TIEs will be nice too. Especially since the Ghost and Assault Carries are both 277 scale.

Wow...they didn't really say much about the TAP V/1.

I don't like rebels, I have no knowledge of this inquisitor guy beyond his pilot rules at first I was just going to buy the scum ships.

Not trying to change your mind at all just saying why I like this wave better than wave VII.

I tend to like the movies better than the cartoons. The cartoons can be definitely childish sometimes. There are a few episodes though that really feel like Star Wars, many more that don't. I was only barely into EU so I don't have any real connection for most of those ships (K-Wing and Punisher will even more foolish that the bounty hunter ships) and Wave VII was an excuse for me to buy the cards. :(

But since I enjoy Rebels and have some friends that are really into it it gives me a nice collection. The Falcon, Ghost, Assault Carrier all awesome. I wish, hope, really hope, really really hope that the Empire's Raider appears in a nice closeup to make it fully cannot. Maybe see some action too.

I hear ya! I still haven't picked the Assault Carrier... decisions, decisions!

Have I mentioned how outrageously big the ghost is?

If you want to light the engines you will need to use a cops 6 cell maglight.

Per Engine!

Which Punishing One downfall meme are they referring to?

Downfall is the name of that movie where Hitler rants that everybody cuts into amusing rants.

Well I know that; I was wondering if anyone had a link to the video posted to this forum specifically about the Punishing One.

The only reason I've seen more than three episodes is that my neighbor is a Star Wars fanatic (even though he's yet to actually play X-Wing with us, which has surprised me. His GF is pretty time-demanding on his weekends whereas mine doesn't care if I waste time with my friends when the chores are done).

I can't get into it. It feels like Star Wars at a 6th grade reading level. If the overall plot was better, I might give it more credit, but really, it feels like exactly what it is. A shameless cash-in by Disney, who paid a ton of money for the license. I don't care for the canonically troubling existence of so many Jedis and Sith so close to the OT timeline. I don't care for the fairly silly Punk Rocker-colored Mandalorian girl, or the purple Talkabacca. Chopper seems like Jar Jar Bots in how wacky and tonally inappropriate he usually is.

None of these are glaring flaws that make it unwatchable. The problem is, combined, they don't feel worthy of the license. "Better than the prequels" remains a low bar I'm not sure is a legitimate argument in anything's favor. But, on the plus side, my disinterest in Rebels and the fact that I don't play Scum means that this will be an inexpensive wave for me.

Interesting that a tractor beam was planned for the defender. I wonder how that would have affected people's opinions of the ship had it happened...

Try hitting prenerf whisper with pre tie/d tbeams

That's how wed receive defenders :P

Does their lack of excitement for the tap suggest they are bored of ties and thinking of gunboats/Cygnus designs?

I can hope.

Let's be fair I think we are all sick of two attack ties at this point.

If they make the sf two attack they'll never hear the end of it.

"Better than the prequels" remains a low bar I'm not sure is a legitimate argument in anything's favor.

*coughs* I think a couple of the Rebels arcs are better than Episode 7...

I'm not Episode 7's biggest fan either, lol. It was another Star Wars installment that benefited from "better than the prequels". ;)
