Shaken pilot crit

By Mr Tough Guy, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So this came up yesterday and I don't think there are specific rules that deal with this issue. So i got the shaken pilot crit meaning I couldn't do a straight maneuver but forgot about it and preceded to pick a straight on my dial, of course when I activated my ship, I realized my error, and figured I had to hand my dial over to my opponent. I don't think this is specifically mentioned in the rules but it makes common sense. He them changed my dial to a red Turn, which is were the confusion started as normally this happens when you try to fly a red maneuver when your stressed, so you're not allowed to change it to a red maneuver, however in this case I wasn't stressed but did an illegal maneuver, so is my opponent allowed to pick a red maneuver? In the end he picked a white turn landing me on an asteroid giving me damage and destroying the ship, but since I was running an attani mindlink squad a red maneuver would have stressed all my ships which might have been more devastating

In that situation I'd treat it the same way as doing a red manoeuvre whilst stressed - i.e. the opponent chooses a legal manoeuvre from your dial for you to perform - but they key point here is 'a legal manoeuvre'. It doesn't matter if it's red - unless you're stressed - it matters if it's legal (i.e. straight in this situation).

So I would have said he could have set a red manoeuvre for you. BUt I don't think this situation is described in detail in the rules.

Thanks, that's what I figured, it's just that I couldn't find any specific rules, and the closest rules that come to mind are those for a stressed red maneuver, and those specifically mention you turn the dial to any non red maneuver, not any legal maneuver.

FYI, I emailed FFG just to be sure and got a reply

Rules Question:

Something came up in a recent game and I don't think there are specific rules that deal with this issue. Although there is a specific resolution of revealing a red maneuver while stressed, the general floor rule is if you choose a maneuver that you cannot execute (such as your example of a straight maneuver while you have Shaken Pilot or alternatively assigning the wrong dial to a ship with a maneuver that ship cannot execute), your opponent chooses another maneuver for you. This does allowed him to choose a red maneuver and with Attani Mindlink potentially throwing everything into chaos. This is a good example of why it is good to use Critical Hit tokens.

That's a good point on the Critical Hit tokens. I never used them until I got the critical damage pack which actually has tokens for -1 agility, -1 attack, PS0, weapons malfunction and regular critical hits. Now I use them all the time and it helps me remember way more than just the base tokens! Totally worth the minor expense.
