Question about Edge of the Empire Character Creation

By Trooper723, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have a player who has made a Hired Gun/Merc Solider. One of his skills shows up as a career skill twice. Does this have any significance? The skill in question is Discipline.

Is there any rules about this or he just has it as a career skill twice and it doesn't really do anything?

Thanks in advance,
Trooper

It gives him the means, if desired, to select two free ranks of the same skill (not exceeding the 2 rank cap at character creation).

As per chargen, you may put 1 rank into 4 of your career's skills. Once you choose your initial spec you may then put a rank each into two of those skills. So a skill which shows up in both places may start with two ranks (maximum) without paying for those ranks.

an lateron if a non Hired Gun player buys into the Merc tree he gets those specializations as careerskills added, while he does not get the whole Hired Gun skills!!

Ok I see thanks guys. This cleared up some confusion.

Now - if you care about such things - it'll save you a tiny fraction of points if you double up the skills at character creation. It's only 5 or so points, so in the grand scheme of things not that important - but if you are looking to eke out every advantage your starting character can get, that's the way to go.

Me, I doubled up not because it save points in the long run, but because she's suppose to be a badassed mechanic. :)
