Vader crew + Gunner + 1 hull ship

By Wibs, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello,

Made me wonder:

Let's assume Vader is on a Decimator with 1 (or 2) hull point left. He shoots a target, misses, uses Vader for damage. Decimator is now at -1 or 0 health. Can he still use Gunner and Vader again? Theoretically, this is a simulations attack, happening at the same time. Or am I wrong?

Thanks.

It can use Gunner, but not Vader. Vader requires the ship utilizing to have a hull remaining. Gunner triggers because the stipulation is the attack has to miss and a primary weapon attack may be performed immediately after the trigger

1 hull needs to be remaining to trigger vader, found in the FAQ

Thanks. Read it wrong in the FAQ :( Read " can use it has 1 hull point left" - missed the "at least"

And this confused me:

"f vader is used twice, it must be in this order: attack, vader, attack, vader"

That's a separate point, clarifying that you can't wait to use Vader for both shots until after you've done the second, i.e. that it's not legal to fire a Cluster Missile and go attack>attack>vader>vader.

Welcome to one of those weird things you may find in the rules.

As mentioned if you shoot you can use Vader, if you miss you can use Gunner.

Where I think things are absurd is that a ship's HULL value NEVER decreases (the forced discard of a Hull Upgrade excluded) as you just acquire damage cards until you're dead. While extremely illogical that you use Vader twice when you start out needing to suffer on more damage before the ship is dead the terminology in the FAQ is a problem even if it intends to give it the most logical use.

Sorry to all the naysayers but I'm afraid that every ship in the game is going to have "at least one hull point left" no matter how many damage cards you stack on top of that hull.
