Rewards for Lessons of the Past F&D

By Cynthorus, in Game Masters

So next session I'm running Lessons of the Past from the F&D core book.

Having already ran Mountaintop Rescue and Lure of the Lost I don't really want to give my players a 4th super rare Holocron.

So looking for suggestions of other Old Republic era treasures that would fit the missions theme.

Wouldn't the holocrons from the Mountaintop Rescue and Lure of the Lost have to stay with the temple itself in order for them to be functional? That was the impression I got at least, so unless the PCs have a reliable means of going back to Splintir at the drop of a hat, I don't know that I'd consider those particular holocrons to be a readily-accessible party resource. And if they do keep going back to Splintir, eventually somebody else is going to learn about this and investigate, especially if the PCs have drawn the attention/ire/wrath of the Empire.

Instead of a proper holocron for Lessons of the Past's big reward, perhaps an archive of data tapes that contain the collected history of the Jedi Order (as well as their training methods and knowledge of the Force) and Republic up to that point in history? This way, it's still a valuable informational resource as intended for the adventure.

Seriously, they can't keep giving away Holocrons (and lightsabers) and keep saying how super-rare they are.

Unless there's a roaring trade for selling them on e-bay or something?

I have connected this adventure with Chronicles of the Gatekeepee. The holocron is not whole, and eventually teaches a ubique force power.

My thought about the rewards was simply information. They find an ancient record mentioning several planets and locations the Jedi once used, such as Phemis, putting the players on the right track to finding their crystals, or whatever they're after.

When I combined these, I added two "special end rewards", both of which were ideas borrowed from other places:

- A necklace that adds +1 light side pip to any one Force roll in a given session.

- A library of Jedi records that adds +2 Boost Dice to Lore checks on pre-Republic Jedi history.

My idea for Spintir was that it could serve as a Jedi library and stronghold, and the players could end up using it as a base of operations — per the rules elsewhere in one of the books for having a base. Each of the Holocrons could potentially have taught new skills and/or powers, too.

However, in my game there were certain PC actions that led to a situation where that solution was not feasible, at least not for the short term. The base had to be evacuated, and everything of value had to be removed.

All that stuff is in storage now, but there’s a chance that they might be able to pull it out of storage and put it up somewhere else, once we get through Chronicles of the Gatekeeper.

How did you tie in part of the holocron being on a thousand year old ship?

I had a similar plans until my players did a bodge job of staying hidden during Lure or the Lost.

Good thoughts I like the idea of the records.

I merged most of the core book adventure to be on Spintir. My PCs had great interaction with university staff (Sungazer, ISB Agent, Security Chief, etc), very funny and dangerous since they robbed the museum :P Val Isa is also my NPC for all purposes of Chronicles of the Gatekeeper arc, and I also made him a long-living off-shot human. Mando also ties into how I established Spintir's roots (check my skeleton draft on this forum, I just uploaded it).
