considering this list for my first regionals

By PanchoX1, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I would love feedback and suggestions on this. been flying it and it's been a lot of fun. just don't know how competitive it may or may not be.

26 Points

• “Omega Leader”
TIE/fo Fighter
Comm RelayJuke
22 points
• “Omega Ace”
TIE/fo Fighter
Expert Handling
29 points
• Kir Kanos
TIE Interceptor

Royal Guard TIE

Autothrusters

Stealth Device

22 points
Avenger Squadron Pilot
TIE Interceptor

Autothrusters

I do not wish to be rude , and I do like the list for causal play I would not take it to regionals. TLT's will eat it alive the only ship they will have trouble with is kir kanos. it might do ok verse master commander lists (vader, palpatine) tie swarms should kill it also because you are only putting out 10 attack dice . these are just my humble opinions take them or leave them your flying the list.

I don't think your'e being rude in any way. Feedback is what I'm looking for. I've not played against TLT's before so I'm not sure how to build for them. Any tips would be appreciated.

I feel you may need more bodies, my suggestion would be to keep your aces OL + Kanos (they are both very cool) and spend the remaining 44 point with 2 Black Squadron + Crackshot and Wampa.

hmm.... yeah, I was thinking about losing omega Ace for something/someone else. I'll explore that for sure. thanks for the feeback.

anyone else got any tips?

so.... I don't think I'll go the "more Bodies" route. Mostly because I'm not that good of a flyer. I have a bit of a hard time not bumping into myself with these four so don't think it's a good idea to add a fifth. it may do me more harm that good. What I did do was swap out Omega ace for Wampa and the Avenger Squadron pilot for a Royal guard. Gave me a few extra points and slots to play with. Here's my current version:

26 Points

• “Omega Leader”
TIE/fo Fighter
Comm RelayJuke
16 points
• “Wampa”
TIE Fighter
Targeting Computer
29 points
• Kir Kanos
TIE Interceptor

Royal Guard TIE

Autothrusters

Stealth Device

28 points
Royal Guard Pilot
TIE Interceptor

Royal Guard Tie

Autothrusters

Stealth Device

Crackshot

Once again, any and all feedback, suggestions, input is welcome. Thanks Guys and Gals.

the list looks solid, but i would try to fit in PTL on the royal guard or drop him for a palp shuttle

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, I don't have a raider nor the Palpatine card. I could try to fit in push the limit but I have no experience with it. maybe I'll have time to mess with it and get the mechanics if it down. sure do like the thought of it though.

Appreciate all the feedback.

here is another i'm considering:

26 points
• “Omega Leader”
TIE/fo Fighter
Comm Relay
Juke
40 points
• Colonel Vessery
TIE Defender
Cluster Missiles Munitions Failsafe
18 points
• “Youngster”
TIE Fighter
Marksmanship
16 points
• “Wampa”
TIE Fighter
Targeting Computer
what do you folks think about this one?

If you're running Omega Ace you really want Push the Limit on him, but even with just that for 23 points I'm not sure he's desperately viable. He's just not going to pack enough punch against anything with shields. It's easy enough to do, you just fly up to something PTL to lock/focus, then spend both for all crits. Green move, rinse, repeat. But actually, what;s most likely to happen is that you die before you shoot anything other than shields, because you're a relatively easy target.

Vessery struggles to be points-efficient enough to be competitive at the moment.

Honestly, I think 4-ship Imperials it just a bit too tight to fit tough enough aces into without compromising on them.

My suggestion would be either to go three-ship aces, or ace/crack miniswarm.

If you like imperials, you are going to have to get used to planning your moves carefully, whether you fly a few aces or a swarm. Imperials are a tough faction to learn on because there is less room for error (typically no shelds) and losing actions due to bumping or going over asteroids can be disastrous.

So my suggestion is to get your ships on the table at home and practice flying. You won't get good with them unless you are very comfortable with the dials and the movement templates and being able to avoid landing ships on obstacles...

As to list, you should fly the stuff you are most interested in. Be prepared to lose though. Imperials typically have a long/steep-ish learning curve compared to the other factions, so it can be a struggle in the beginning.

You seem to like interceptors, and they are good ships, but glass cannons. Push the Limit is definitely something you want to practice with. Its the best card for them due to the amount of green moves on the dial. Interceptors live and die by positioning, so its very important you try to position your ships so they are outside enemy firing arcs (ideally getting shots of their own when possible). Being able to use 2 actions per turn allows them to do this through boost & barrel roll (or sometimes just one of the two plus focus if shooting or evade if getting shot at). Autothrusters is also very good on interceptors these days, given the continued popularity of turrets...

I would find a buddy that can play test TLTs against you. Even if you don't have the ships, you can proxy a list and use the movement tip cards to fly them around. It's worth looking at because you really need to see it in order to understand how demoralizing and difficult it can be.

That's great advice. I just don't know if I can make that happen before the event. I'm in the middle of selling my house and moving. But if I can set that up, I will! Thanks!

Can you suggest a tlt list to practice against?

Well here's one of them...

Manage archtype

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + Unhinged Astromech

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + Unhinged Astromech

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + Unhinged Astromech

Syndicate Thug + Twin Laser Turret + Unhinged Astromech

The one my friend flew this weekend at a SC (got 5th out of 32) was something similar to this (I'm going off of memory) There's other upgrades I don't remember because I've never actually flown against it.

Syndicate Thug + TLT

Syndicate Thug + TLT

HWK-290 (Palob) + TLT

HWK-290 (Torkil) + TLT

This last list is partically annoying. Basically Torkil will target one of your ships and set it to PS:0. Then Palob will steal one of your tokens and then all 4 ships will light you up with 8x attacks @ 4 dice each. Even if you only take one damage per attack, that's still potentially 8 damage on the board before that ship can fire back. And those Y-wings are beefy, I think they're 8 points of Shield + hull each so they take a while to kill.

Edit: Also - for comparison - on a 32-person tournament, there were fully 28 TLT carrying ships at the event. That's approx. 7/32 people flying full TLTs though there might have been some odd 3-K wing and/or one off ships. Figure 5-6 people running TLT builds out of 32.

As a fellow imperial aces pilot, listen to blade_mercurial's advice, and definitely get some practice in. Aces and especially interceptors are high risk/high reward ships, but one bad placement and the ship is gone.

When thinking about your list, you should always ask yourself how will you deal with a few things: High PS/dodgy aces, low PS swarms (both TIE and Rebel), TLT's, and fat turrets. That's a tall bill, because you want your defenses able to both handle a few strong shots, and a peppering of less accurate ones. If you have a plan and can match up well against all of these things, you'll usually do OK. May not win them all, but you won't get smoked.
