I have seen that FFG is going to release new coloured bases for X-Wing, but I have not seen black in the mix

I have seen black basses used at some tournaments and i was wondering if any of you have made your own black bases, and if so, what have you found to be the best technique?

- Black spray primer?

- Paint by hand?

- Other...

- Do they require a clear coat for protection?...

Painter's Tape over the top peg slot. Spray paint black. Done.

Takes all of 2 minutes + drying time.

I keep my pegs clear, but my bases and washers in them, they are set in place by black caulking. Adds weight and traction. Plus they get a cool black under glow.

I spray paint mine black and then after its dried use an old toothbrush dipped in white paint to flick stars on the base and peg.

I just hit them quick with spray primer. Easy mode.

Black spray primer is all you need. I have done this with all my bases, and it holds up perfectly. Just put a peg in the holder, so you have something to hold on to when you paint, and it helps the peg holder not get clotted with paint too

Yep, I do all my pegs & bases in flat (matte) black. Looks good against a black playmat.

I wouldn't have thought to mast off the number holders, great thinking!

I am leaning towards painting the pegs too for my ships.
