Agree completely. It does grip, but not near what I expected, things will still slide. Still haven't found anything better.

Does anyone else make a mousepad style Playmat? Are there any other manufacturers' offerings that are as good?

Well I make custom neoprene mats for the Stele Open that I think are pretty nice. I don't think FFG's "trounce" them.

Mine are event exclusive, though, and not retail.

They should be out around May, the 4ths and seem to set new standards in printing and graphic fidelity, while being absolute competitive to the high quality ones in terms of gameplay. I just have to convince my wife that we totally should get the space sector 7 one.

Though I must admit, I really like the FFG ones as well, especially the starfield one is simple, yet perfect atmospheric, which I guess is the reason why she prefers the FFG one.

My Gripmats have the best grip of any mat i've played on. The FFG mat looks great but is just super, super slick. I wish that someone made the gripmat material on top with the thickness and weight of the neoprene.

Still waiting on someone to manufacture magnetic playmats...

The first wave of mats was significantly less grippy than the follow on mats. I discovered this because after getting my grip mat (well after the Kickstarter ended) I found one in retail packaging at one of my FLGS. I bought it and found it much less grippy than the first. I emailed the company and they confirmed that the first formulation had been improved upon. I think they have newer mats that even better than the second generation.
