Lt Blount Z-95 Alpha Strike

By Baaa, in X-Wing

I was wondering if the target lock acquired wih tracers is from an actual Target Lock action. If so then stress would mean no action. Would this wording also stop FCS from allowing ships to acquire target locks while stressed or bumped?

It just seems like an old ruling that upgrades require TLs to be within r3 always

It's not an action per se, it allows you to acquire a free TL if you're within range of the Thread Tracers and within TL range of the defender. So stress doesn't matter.

Acquiring a Target Lock When acquiring a target lock, a player must first declare the intended target. Then, he measures range to the declared target to see if the target is within legal range. If the target is in range, the ship performing the action must acquire a target lock on the target. If the target is not in range, the player may declare a different target, or he may declare a different action

It's not an action though. It takes place in the Combat phase, so the only restrictions are the range specific ones.

That's my understanding of it, but lets be honest, it certainly wouldn't be the first time I've been completely wrong when it comes to X-Wing rules.

I'm sure I was your 3rd opponent today Baa, ran a Fel, Vader, Omega Leader list.

You're right that Roark was the biggest pain on the table. :)

it was certainly an interesting list to play against. I got some luck with my green dice which stopped me from losing Fel early on otherwise it would have been a much different game.

I'll add my +1 about the host and venue, always a good day out there. Not ideal with the delay due to the software but it gave me the chance to chat with a few of the guys playing so wasn't too bad.

Definitely not an action. The text says "acquire a target lock" and not "perform a target lock action".

Then why the range restriction? Is there a part in the rules that states absolutely that all TLs are acquired within range no matter how acquired? I mean, it makes sense that TLs should only be acquired within r3 with upgrades like Long Range Scanners coming out, but it seems this part of the rules (as usual) has been left somewhat ambiguous if someone picks apart the details.

The rules only say that you can acquire TL with card abilities, but no indication that it works any differently than the TL acquired from actions.

There were a couple of reasons, first was a post by Hobo where he said about shooting first. I'd stuck Roark in to say that I was going to shoot first, it kind of stayed there. Having said that, Roark was worth his points, my opponents couldn't guarantee that the PS 2 Z-95 they were going to end up in arc of was getting hit before they were.

It meant that nearly every move either of us made had to be really thought about.

The other reason was that I didn't have enough Chimps. I'd managed to get 2 in store yesterday, and picked a third up this morning.

My opponents were probably more wary off the IPM than the Concussions if the truth be told.

I've tried it myself it's no easy thing getting a generic to catch a high mobility ace, I hope what I said didn't cripple you I was trying to be constructive.

My last game was against an identical list to yours, and those were the most difficult ones I flew against.

On the bright side, my tuna toastie was lovely.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was the guy flying the 8 Z-95's who won. Could be wrong as I'm just going off a comment I saw on the Facebook page.

The only thing I would do is to change the missile loadout to get rid of that range 1 issue.

Considering blount's low pilot skill you might want hull upgrade to avoid getting taken out.

Still the only list alpha strikes would be good against is the point fortress list. Also the age old problem that often for missile and torpedo weapons the rerolls of the target lock is more valuable than the effects of the secondary weapon attacks. But still the meta has been changed from that point fortress large ship list with the MOV nerf. So again my problem with all these fixes for missile and torpedo secondary weapons is that they seem to all be for Yesterday's meta and the fixes are not focusing on the upcoming meta where they need to be in order to get players filling missle and torpedo slots with something other than chardaan.
