My Recreator Studios Items arrived: A review

By Hastatior, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi all, just got my order from recreator studios. For the record, I got 10 of each of the command tokens, 4 corners, fighter range rulers range 1 through 4, close range and medium range rulers.

Here are my Impressions:

All of the items are made of thick, sturdy acrylic

Corners: They look great and lay flat each corner has a different design on it which is a nice unexpected touch

Range Rulers: They all lay flat and the clear colors look great (lots of color choices when ordering). Carefully checking against the cardboard range ruler shows that none of the ranges are more than fractions of a millimeter off mostly they are perfectly on, not discernibly off to a close inspection with the naked eye. I got the "bottle green" and the "Dark Blue" and I especially like the bottle green.

Command tokens: These are the stars of the show. Each type has its own color and each one has a great and unique etched and painted design. The thick acrylic gives them a nice feel and while they are a fraction smaller in diameter than the cardboard they are maybe 25% thicker and made from a translucent black acrylic like the corners. The only complaint is that the etching isn't always exactly centered but this only seems to happen on the squadron tokens so it might either be by design or just a batch thing. This isn't a huge deal as the designs really are quite nice and with the heft and color they really are a cut above the cardboard and IMO a good bit better than the FFG acrylic tokens.

All in all I am quite pleased with the purchase, especially with the tokens and with the extreme accuracy of the rulers.

Overall 8/10

Would like to add that the guy behind these is very responsive to questions and seems very nice, I think he is kept quite busy because he makes good stuff but he does take the time to communicate with customers.

Doooooooood he's got some sweet looking stuff on his site.I actually rather like the replacement shield dials, but those could get real expensive real quick lol

Yeah, I had stumbled across this site, too. The stuff definitely looks nice, but it's out of my price range. With the money spent on tokens, you could easily buy a whole bunch of extra ships.

The defense tokens look great and so do the command tokens. Looks like I might make an order. I do wish it showed all the colors of the rulers.

Indeed, but thanks to FFGs sluggish release schedule and the embarrassing amount of money I spend on this stuff I basically have all the ships I will ever need and maybe a good few I will never need :P

Yeah, and those don't come out till October. $5 per ship isn't too bad (comes in 4-packs) most people typically roll with 2-5 ships, so 10-25 bucks to have shiny, sturdy shield dials on the tourney table isn't bad at all.

Yeah, I'm eyeing those defense tokens too. That can get mighty expensive, however. at between 7.50 and 10 per ship plus shield dials you end up spending more on the bling than the ship.

PUURRRRDY!

If you click further you find it's a set of 4, not the single dial it initially appears to be.

"Pricing is for a set of 4 Shield Dials. Expected ship date is October."

(he says October but doesn't mention the year -- there is no faulting his attention to detail when it comes to copying FFG  )

I e-mailed and asked about their tournament box. I have Fehlder for my ships, but I'd like to use it for cards and rulers. I haven't heard back though, anybody know about it?

Corsec sells shield dials as well. I have a few sets and they look nice.

and they are only $2.99 for 4 at corsec

CorSec also just released Maneuver One tools:

Not a bad idea. As expensive as buying a new maneuver tool, but you never have to worry about them wearing out. And there's no wiggle room, so you get the same exact maneuver each time.

Good stuff. Ordered corners and range rulers. I went with translucent amber.

I would actually never use these and I would have a problem with an opponent using them in a tournament. Maneuver is too important.

Yeah but did you see the review video for them? It put me off buying them actually.

These are useless if you want to take one click to the right or two clicks for the left. Maybe I'm missing something but these don't seem like a good purchase.

Flip it, that might work ;)

Are you trying to say that left, backwards, is right?!?

It is a set of 3. straight, one click and two click.
