Broken Neb-B

By mcworrell, in Star Wars: Armada

It was bound to happen. I just got a new Neb-B and have only used it twice and now the peg that goes into the stand broke off. Grrrr. Any ideas on how to repair? Or suggestions of anything better then super glue to fix it?

I noticed the stand it came with was a much tighter fit then the one that came with the core set. Any ideas on how to fix that. I don't want to have to worry about breaking off peg after peg in it.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Drill and pin them together. Only way that's going to work, unforunately. I had the same problem- tried several adhesives (including some industrial stuff only available due to my work) put a good 'ole pin is the only thing that worked (works even better if you slather your pin in loctite 242).

I'm new to this kind of stuff, I'm assuming you mean drill into the Neb-B and slide the pin from the base into it? Or am I adding a new pin of some kind?

The more I thought about it and looked at the piece I realized that can't be what you mean obviously you must mean adding a pin of some sort.

drill out the ship and glue in some wire to replace the peg. I think its 16g or 18g

wire that fits ( test some on the stands to find what fits)

I think it is 14 gage wire, use copper if you have it, as it is easier to trim the front section flat, and file the bottom to get a slite tapered edge. Use a drill bit that is the same diameter as the wire, and glue it with a super glue jell, or an epoxy putty. It has greater setup time, so you can get it positioned the way you want.

Just be gentle drilling the hole. If you have never done a pinning repair jod before, practice on a Lego block. It will give you a good approximation of the texture of an FFG model.

You can even drill it by hand just by spinning. The drill bit between your fingers. It takes longer, but you will be less likely to drill all the way through, or have the bit start floating when you start drilling.

Feel free to ask if you need advice.

Thanks for the advice. This will be my first repair job, so I will probably have questions.

Any ideas on drill bit size for a 14 gage wire?

What about magnets?

They sell small hand held drills exactly for this. Citadel, I think? That said, I think it might be best for you to talk to someone at a lfgs who has modified figures/ships in this way, or to look on youtube for a tutorial/walk through. It's not that it's hard, I just think it would help a lot to see it done, rather than get posts that leave you with questions.

How to on pining. :) Good luck!

another tip: use a pin smaller than your drill diameter to give you some play- that will let you line it up exact. If you use a good epoxy you'll have plenty of time to fudge t into position and it will be stronger than the original bond when done

I will say that el-cheapo harbor freight superglue worked for my Neb-B, (Literally after I opened the core set, and took it out) That's over half a year without problems (It does mean you can't remove the stand from it, but meh.

You can try contacting FFG customer service, they are usually very helpful.

The hand drills are available at most craft stores, and will cost way less than citadel. Dremmel makes a very nice 8-10 peice drill bit set from 1/8" down to 1/32"

For sizing, eyeball it, then drill a test hole in something scrap.

I just now re-pined a ship. I used 2mm carbon fiber rod that I use for RC air craft it's a loose fit but it works

as for drill bit size just test fit the back end in the base rod hole. My small bits don't have size stamped on them like the bigger one do. but in this case I will bet its 2mm or 1/16"

Thanks for all the tips guys. Might be taking a trip out to the store soon. I'll let you know how it goes when I do it.

I will say this:

When my ships break (several CR90s now), I don't pin them, because they still have the same breaking / bending issues. Usually, I just magnetize them (get some small rare earth magnets, glue one to the top of the peg, one to the bottom of the ship in a spot where people can't see it from the table.

I haven't had a problem with this yet, but I thought FFG customer service was great at handling this kind of thing
