First Order Storm Trooper transport

By juxstapo, in X-Wing

An X-Wing is 12.5m long. The Atmospheric Assault Landers are 17.8m long.

long story short my local Wal-Mart* finally got off it's ass and started carrying the Black Series Titanium ships. I got the TIE/SF and absolutely adore it. I have the Hotwheels one also and hacksawed it apart with the intention of replacing the spars with some of the correct length and diameter. Paint on the BS is a lil' wonky but I intend to repaint anyway, so having it's components scaled well means so much more, detail is better also.... I got wayy off topic

The Black Series Titanium AAL "First Order Stormtrooper Transport" is pretty darn close to scale... so if (for kicks) we were to throw one into an X-wing game, what do you guys think the stats would be? (No, there's no fluff-apropos reason to include a troop transport for anything other than an objective marker, but for the mental exercise)

Movement dial will have to be outright crappy, since its an "Atmospheric Assault Lander"... we do see them in space however.

According to Wookiepedia the only weapon is the "F-70 Antipersonnel Cannon", which in all fairness would probably be meaningless in a ship to ship battle. Or represented by 1-attack, or a stipulation that you can pay to mount a cannon, as long as that cannon is an Autoblaster. It is on a turret with "240 degree field of fire", so there's that.

Does 2 Agility sound unreasonable? What do you guys think about hull and shields? I believe it'd warrant a crew slot.

*I usually don't succumb to the temptation to gripe and whine about "where I'm frum" (deep rural middle Georgia), but Force Friday brought me perilously close to that aspect of the dark side. For Force Friday our Wal-Mart (only bigish department store in the surrounding 8 counties... "rural" mind you); put a card table at the end of the toy-aisle and plopped a Darth Vader bust pinata on it... and that was it. A solid two linear feet of the toy aisle was dedicated to "all the new Star Wars stuff", the build your own saber kit and the first run of action figures and vehicles. No Black Series, no little ships whatsoever.... however the entire store was drenched (more so than usual) with Realtree, Mossy Oak, Predator, in keeping with their typical customer base... I was pissed, ooooh I was pissed... anyway I just got wayyy off topic again, sorry!

It's a metal box with basic propulsion designed to arrest a fall into the atmosphere, deliver a payload, and leave again. It's weapons are designed to cover the egress of whatever its carrying against infantry. Putting it into a dogfight would be akin to using WW2 landing craft to fight PT boats, subs, and frigates.

However...

If there was a boarding action against epic ships... ram a Corvette amidships with couple of these, delivering some stormtroopers to shut down an upgrade or sabotage a section... Now that would be interesting.

Agree. 0/0/3 (or 2)/1.

Let's hope it never touches this game.

If you have one can you post a photo next to the T70? I seemed to think it was too large

Open your original Core set rulebook to the Mission section.

Read the mission about escorting a Senator's Shuttle.

Flip that around to TIEs escorting a troop transport.

Smile as you have your solution to the stats: 2 Straight, 1 banks, 6 Hull/6 Shields. Oh, and a mission to use it in.

Question: Is it large enough that it'd have to go on a large base, or would it just be a 'big small' ship like the Punisher or K-Wing?

It's probably small like the HWK in size.

Probably a lander over an assault ship.

That being said, never underestimate metal bawkses.

Or perhaps it should go on one of the weird rectangular bases like the shuttle and wingman (or whatever it's called).

As much as I am all for staying mobile it is getting harder with corporations buying all the property from banks (the apartment complex I live in just got bought by one) they are throwing residents under 2 year contracts as in if you leave you have to pay the rest of the lease. Also if you have any debt (I'm barley avoiding it as of now) you are sort of forced to work to pay it or else you get hit with more interest. If you don't stay on top of your finances you will find yourself stuck with section 8 housing and forced to work 1 minimum wage jobs. If you happen to find yourself earning more you will lose the privilege of low income status but not have enough income to survive in a regular status.

Face it the economy sucks and the middle class is dissolving.

Why would you avoid debt? Well-managed debt is how you get ahead - a house in a rapidly-growing market is one of the best investments you can make (especially if you are willing to put some elbow grease into it - we've...and I hate the term..."flipped" a number of houses that were our primary residences for quite a profit!). Nevermind more speculative debt - key is to keep it under control, well planned, and then resolved quickly (either via sale of a property, refinancing, etc).

Also: why would you avoid work?! I'm assuming I'm parsing that wrong, otherwise that's just insane. I mean...like, does-Vader-need-to-make-a-stop-at-your-place-insane. Of course you are forced to work. Because you are human. That's part of the deal!

Question is just what you do with that.

Why not? Not everything has to be 100pts head-on.

The primary issue is that if you do not already have money, you cannot acquire anything close to a reasonable loan - either you're laughed out of the bank, or the interest rates are so punitive that should one thing go wrong over the next thirty years you have no choice but to default.

So it's a paradox. If you have money already, you can get more money. If you have no money, you can't GET money.

Moving cross-country with no firm job or home waiting for you is difficult and expensive (and insanely hopeful for the future); how the hell are you supposed to go into the bank and say, "I want to borrow four thousand dollars so I can move to California and look for a job there, because the local yokels annoy the hell out of me?"

Working more isn't much of a solution when two people working 'full time' (under 32 hours so the company avoids paying for benefits) barely covers the cost of living in an apartment.

Getting a second job is stupidly difficult because companies refuse to give their minumwage workers a schedule that stays the same from week to week - one week you might be working weekend evenings, the next you could be covering weekday mids. Trying to GET a consistent schedule earns you the label of 'difficult to work with' and puts your job at risk.

Employers don't want employees with second jobs, they want their employees solely dependent on them - and don't want to pay them enough to give them uppity ideas about saving money and moving up in the world. Hell, I've gotten fired from a job for going to college and daring to declare two of my days as off-limits so I could attend school on those days - not that they phrased it that way, they just pushed me out for 'noncompliance' on issues that appeared out of nowhere - or weren't a big deal BEFORE I becaome a 'problem employee'.

Not only that, have you WORKED 12 hours in a single day, with another thirty minutes to an hour spent driving between jobs and home, five days a week? There's a reason that the mandated work-day is 8 hours. It's murderous.

The last trap waiting for you is when you GET out of low-income (meaning you can get financial aid in some way, or pay less taxes) but don't earn enough to cover the difference that aid made. I got bounced back hard a few years ago thanks to THAT little trap.

It's hard to have empathy for another person's problems that are outside of your monkeysphere. They don't seem real to you - I have a problem with a co-worker saying, "Oh, it's so hard having $900 a month taken out of your husband's paycheck for full medical and dental for my family" when I don't even MAKE $900 a month, let alone get dental benefits!

But they are real, and sometimes they're a lot more oppressive than you might think.

I've worked my way up from the absolute bottom and I've owned my own companies and properties. I'm posting here to remind everyone that EMPLOYERS/HUSTLERS/PIMPS only want one thing: Success and Growth.

You can work a second-job AND go to school and not be fired if your entire being is dedicated to the Success and Growth of your employer.

It's rarely personal; it's rarely mysterious; it's rarely (true) oppression.

It's Success and Growth.

Every word you say... Every thought you have... Success and Growth.

I bought 6 for s & G...

The primary issue is that if you do not already have money, you cannot acquire anything close to a reasonable loan - either you're laughed out of the bank, or the interest rates are so punitive that should one thing go wrong over the next thirty years you have no choice but to default.

But, again, you are presuming staying in one place. Why would you do that? How we started 20 years ago was basically just that - with no equity, got a 30 year fixed-rate loan for a house on what are honestly horrible terms. Probably "worked" 80 hour weeks that year at day jobs or re-painting, re-building, re-landscaping, etc the house. Sold it within two years, allowing us to close out that loan and have enough more than we bought it for that we DID have a down-payment on our next one, and got considerably better loan rates - on just 2 years work, not 30. Did the same thing, a few more times - although did get hit with the recession that had us stick it out in one place for 7 years until the economy recovered (but it was a nice spot, so basically hard to complain) - just keep moving, just keep working, you can absolutely claw your way up from the very bottom.

Well, you don't get a loan to cover a move - that's too much risk. And also - moving without a job is not a great idea, either. How we got across the country was as a result of doing that buy-remodel-sell thing a couple times where we were to get a little bit ahead, then while the latest house back east was on the market, we did a short rental on a place in Oregon which we used as our address when applying and interviewing for jobs out here (employers don't seem to like hiring employees that are not local, even if the employee plans to fully cover the cost of the move themselves). Once we both had jobs, we finished the sale of the house back east. Then proceeded to do the whole buy-remodel-sell thing a couple more times here on the West coast.

Working more isn't much of a solution when two people working 'full time' (under 32 hours so the company avoids paying for benefits) barely covers the cost of living in an apartment.

I'd chuck this in with the 'then move' thing again - not sure where you are at, but rental rates that max out two people working full time is a problem in relatively few major cities (here, certainly). Just a little bit of distance outside town, though, and the costs drop quite rapidly.

Not all 'second jobs' cause schedule conflicts. The house remodel thing, for example, is unquestionably full-time work...but also doesn't interfere with any work schedule, since you can do it whenever you want. I also did freelance programming a bit while in college to cover some budget gaps, as, again, it's not a scheduled thing - you can do it whenever you can fit it in. Heck, I did art for some boardgame companies for hire along the way. Lots of possibilities, there!

Not only that, have you WORKED 12 hours in a single day, with another thirty minutes to an hour spent driving between jobs and home, five days a week? There's a reason that the mandated work-day is 8 hours. It's murderous.

Actually, yes, I have done exactly that. I'd saved up some money working in high school to start on (community!) college, but when my father got tossed in jail my mother cleared out my checking account (under 18 requires joint account) to keep paying the bills. So I left home at 18 with literally no money or place to stay. And worked insane hours WHILE going to school full time, and then shortly buying that first dump of a house to remodel along the way.

So, yeah, I know exactly what that's like.

You know what else trees aren't, and have in common with people?

Made of money.

I already have a use for them. I have been designing a ground based version of X-Wing for some time.... These are clearly another "Imperial design" that the filthy First Order has "borrowed".

002_zpsjqx6hpnv.jpg

The Rebel scum has adopted a small courier shuttle as a tactical transport as well.

003_zpsae4b5qdb.jpg

I really like the First Order Transport, its like a Star Wars Higgens boat, and the scene in the movie with them was so epic!

I wonder if we'll see the shuttle Kylo Ren used, possibly with him as a crew (can't see him as a pilot since as far as we know he isn't one.)

Welp, DB Draft just satisfied the underlying psychological need of this post, which was "see what these things look like on an X-wing stand."

@ iamfanboy: Thought about just exactly that, but removing all the brainsweat and theorycrafting for a plug and play solution doesn't "satisfy" somehow.

@ Hantheman: and there's the rub. My Rebel playing wife and primary opponent in these Force forsaken lands and I are speculating on having an Imperial HWK. Since her Reb collection now has turrets festooning every hitherto unused surface of ship.

So... despite it being completely incorrect, if you kitted out an Imperial HWK substitute; what would the named pilots do?

And as far as leaving the heart of Dixie... I'm the third generation of a family run construction company. I'm very close with said family and have been what I'm doing for twenty one years... (to put that in perspective, I homeschool and started working with my dad when I was 11,.. now, at 32 I'm rather entrenched). As far as the place, living out in the sticks is fine, the only times it becomes an annoyance is when my lack of good old boy ism clashes with the local zeitgeist.. like when I want a store full of Star Wars and get one dripping with camo and buck lure instead. <_< (or when I want a radio station that isn't playing country music; seriously, 1 new rock station, 1 classic rock station, 1 R&B, 1 straight rap; and 8 country stations. )
