3 Interceptors vs Han/Poe

By Dalcor, in X-Wing

Just returned from tournament and I am still not sure if 3 Interceptors (Soontir, Carnor, Turr) has any chance against Han with Gunner + Regen Poe? Is it better to hunt Poe first, or Han? I was able to arc dodge Poe, but was unable to made any interesting dmg to Han, meanwhile I got 2 - 3 dmg thanks to Gunner each round with no evades on my part...

Probably the right tactics is to evade all dmg from Han except one to avoid triggering the gunner?

Try Omega Leader with Juke and Comm Relay instead of an interceptor. He gives Han fits.

Are you using Autothrusters, or better yet both Autothrusters and Stealth Device? If so, then yes, you have a better than even chance. Avoid Range 1 and make sure your ships have both focus and evade, and you should ride out Han's attacks pretty easily.

So first, I'll say that this is a tough battle even with autothrusters. I play interceptors quite a bit and even braved them through the pre-autothruster days and had generally good success with them. However, Han is always a tough fight because he's still able to get into Range 1almost at will on everyone except Soontir and that's not where you want to be against him.

That also makes going after him first a tough proposition, since he can actually dodge arcs. I'm not sure what kind of game you're playing, but in a timed game, you can kill the support and then dictate the terms to Han (ie, force him to go after you). I've won this fight both ways, but if it's Han at PS 9 and Poe at 10, you're going to have to be able to adjust your plan.

I'll also add that Turr just isn't very useful in this fight. He's the weakest link and with both Jax and Soontir you're left with him with PTL and ATs or VI and SD/Hull and his ability isn't very useful. I think Omega Leader (or the Inquisitor soon) are better options. Heck, in a lot of ways a RG interceptor makes more sense than Turr since with 31 points left over he has PTL, AT, SD/Hull.

For whatever reason, I prefer extra health on these ships, especially in the current meta. It might because it just feels safer to me, but I also like to control the amount of damage I'm taking and with SD you must block all of it to make the best use of SD and keep it active.

Here's the list I ran and took to top 4 at SC a couple weeks ago. It beat several rebel regen lists and a decivader (without gunner), which is arguably it's weakest matchup. I didn't face Han, but I think would have felt very comfortable facing him:

Soontir Fel PTL, AT, Hull, RGT

Carnor Jax PTL, AT, Shield, RGT

Omega Leader Juke, Hull, Comms

Autothrusters are enough, SD is definetely not helping against gunner + han. If you spent all your tokens on first attack, second attack is clear. And with Hans rerolls and lone wolf...
