Is a scantily clad Lothal Rebels or Chopper pilot + Zeb crew going to be really efficient?

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

Imagine: Lothal Rebels + Zeb. 4 dice double arc, can attack things that it bumps.

It seems like this should be a seriously powerful damage tool. Not good for ace hunting, but great for just bashing things in the face. 4 dice isn't kidding.

Or you could also add APL and Autoblaster turret for R1 bumper car threat zone against aces.

Oh, wow. Never mind, The Ghost can't shoot from the back primarily if it doesn't have the Phantom equipped?

Nope, but you can stick the notoriously overpriced adv proton torp to scare the excrements out of the enemy!

Why? You're already firing five dice at R1 with the Ghost.

Surely if you bump and shoot it would be 5 attack dice at range 1.

Aye, it would be. Which is part of what makes Zeb a potentially potent crew member. He'll be solid on the generic or Chopper since they'll be more likely to have taken an action before some unfortunate ship bumps into them and eats 5 dice with no modifiers (and won't be firing back with modifiers). Hera is maybe a solid option as well, since she could adjust her dial and slam into the back of a ship that can't shoot back like a poor man's Arvel Crynyd.

Which is a list I really want to run: Arvel Crynyd with a Zeb equipped Ghost. Just ram all the things!

Because you can fire torpedoes out of your rear arc if they get behind you.

Nice thinking but after ramming you won't be able to target lock or focus so have no way of actually firing them. Of course for those rounds you don't bump it's a great deferent to anyone trying to hit you from behind.

No reason you can't go ace hunting with such a build.

Step 1 - Block Soontir.

Step 2 - Shoot tokenless Soontir with 5-dice primary.

Step 3 - Profit!

You don't aim to bump. You aim to block.

Actually yes. That darn thing looks capable of being built to kill aces too. Via bumping.

because the "special snowflake arc" isn't used for Primary unless you dock a titled shuttle to it

You won't kill any aces if you bump them and they fly right past you. Hence the aim to block so they bump YOU.

The Ghost itself isnt that efficient. 16HP looks good on paper but in reality thats less durability than a 10HP/2agi ship. The dial isnt that great either considering you only use the primary arc in your (almost) naked version. It's got the 4 attack dice going for it.

Personally i believe you probably need to put atleast some combination of system+turret+crew on it to make it viable, with fcs+autoblaster+Hera/Zeb crew probably being the cheapest viable option. FCS alone raises the efficiency alot and the turret/crew reduce the limitations of the dial by alot. And this build still comes in at 'just' 40 or 41pts for the generic.

I could be wrong.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again.

Lothal Rebel, Tactical Jammer

Might as well put Enhanced Scopes on there if you only use Zeb crew. Maybe an Intelligence Agent if you have a point to spare.

The Agent doesn't do all that much on a ship that can't reposition. If you're flying Hera it could make all the difference though. Who knows, maybe Hera with Zeb and Agent could be playable, if a little expensive for such a role.

You will. Fire control system.

Ram, stress (Chopper), fire with 5 dice, get TL, 2 straight, fire torpedo in rear arc.
