There are those amongst all factions that will only endorse "cannon" repaints/schemes, and those that embrace diversity.

As much as I love my bleak Empire, you can come up with Lore reasons for Painted Imperials. Like BleakSquadrom with his Red Decimator/Ties. In Tournaments you can fight Empire vs Empire, maybe your a group of imperial Traitors, who are fighting against their own for survival. In Worlds, there was a Palpmobile list vs Whisper and a mini-Tie swarm. The announcers were having fun joking about it being an imperial innsurection against the Emperor. You don't have to have a reason to paint your Ties, but you can have a fun explanation anyway.

I don't believe it. I literally thought that Grand Moff Tarkin had pursed his thin lips and created multiple profiles so he could spam nay-saying responses.

I definitely wasn't poking a bit of fun at a few curmudgeons.
