I want to paint some TIE/v1s red...

By Comradebot, in X-Wing

Call em' the Red Barons.

I modified one of my Original Ties in red. Called him Spider-Tie.

I kinda feel like the empire wouldn't allow such blatant individualism amongst their pilots.

I mean, the red stripe for whatsistsface squadron was pretty much considered borderline.

This would be considered insubordination.

I have trouble in imagining imperial pilots having their own ship. I'd expect them to be issued one before a mission and sign it back in to the pool after.

Pretty much that too.

Unless they're elite pilots from some elite squadron. In that case, I can see them getting assigned a ship on a permanent basis, but still not allowing any kind of artistry or personal modifications.

Unless they are made a Baron of the Empire.

Go for it. Who cares what the naysayers say? If it makes you happy paint your ships dayglow.

Well, this too :)

Really cool! Go for it!

Empire is anyways so boringly uniform, as ships are concerned.

My own black widow :)

Really far off sectors may have more allowing squad commanders, and less resources and ships available, so that aces stick to one.

Maybe also along the lines of the movie "Richthofen vs. Brown", where German pilots were ordered to paint their planes to make the type indiscernible and camouflage them. The elite pilots thought of this as being cowardish and dishonorable. So they "stretched" the order and gave their planes very gaudy and flashy paint jobs. Unknown if there's any historical truth in that explanation. Analogously in a far away sector some aces might be tempted to mark their ships while defying orders doing so.

Sure, but I guarantee none of those fighters are an active part of any naval or air force.

no, no, no, that's how every german pilot paints his plane ^_^

I say that if you want red ties then paint red ties.

There are plenty of players sticking to the "rules" for the imperials, but there are an equal number that are doing their own thing.

They're your models, and you are the one that will be using them.

Regardless of what you choose, there will be people that tell you that you are wrong...

So just go for what is right for you and spice up your ships!!! ;)

If you really wanted a Red Baron, you'd cannibalise two additional sets of wings to make the biggest, baddest v1 out there.

But I mean, if you need a fluff reason to make them red, call 'em Royal Guards before the Squint finished development.

Underoos!

Royal Guard Inquisitors, maybe?

I mean.. My outer rim patrol squad is all red. Bleak squadron is pretty much left to their own out here. So much so that they don't see shipments of new ships often so pilots personalize the craft they're more or less stuck with, within reason. (my lore justification)

Glam Squadron only flies pink TIEs... Blue grey isn't regulation, pilot!

Because Germans are AWESOME!!!!

Only an imperial-centric thread could provoke such negativite responses.

"Boo! Doesn't look uniform. It needs to be some super boring shade of grayish blue with black solar panels."

Bunch of Tarkins in here. I feel like a thread with rebel or scum ships would have nothing but support for a cool paint job.

Well, I'm pretty sure, just like real life pilots, Imperial pilots are assigned a fighter craft, until they kick the bucket, or get another assignment posting. Even though the ships are the same, each is unique, with its own quirks and idiosyncrasies, that pilots adapt to over time.

Nobody's saying you CAN'T, just that it doesn't seem likely to be allowed "for real" in the empire.

I mean, I don't care if people paint their ships pink and put rainbow flags on them, but it hardly seems like it'd be allowed in the lore.
It's like if you're playing Dust and paint all your SSU forces in purple with big spiders on their tanks... looks great, but is hardly something that would be in-universe.

If you want to paint the ships, go for it.
