Seen in Flames and A Tourney for the King

By Agamemnon316, in Rules Questions

There is a debate at my local shop. A Baratheon player played Seen in Flames on the turn where his opponent played A Tourney for the King. The Tourney player argues that a knight card cannot be the choice for the discard. The Baratheon player disagrees. Please help.

I believe the Bara player is correct..

Tourney for the King protects Knight characters "in your control."

I don't have the rules to hand atm, but I would guess that does not include cards in your hand.

This is incorrect because cards only react with cards that are in play, unless they specifically say otherwise (RRG, p. 2).

So, the cards in your hand do not gain immunity from the plot, even though the plot says, "that you control" because the assumption is always, "that you control IN PLAY." The plot would specifically have to say it gives immunity to cards in your hand to protect them from being discarded by the event.

RR p2 " x Card abilities only interact with, and can only

target, cards that are in play, unless the ability

text specifically refers to an out of play area or

element."
