Chiraneau or Oicunn?

By 1mikethebuilder1, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Considering two lists here, both with minor differences. Decimators have same upgrades.

Oicunn

Expose

Experimental Interface

Gunner

Mara Jade

Weapons Engineer

Dauntless

Seismic Charges

2X Omega Squadron Pilot each with Veteran Instincts (100pts)

Or

Chiraneau

Expose

Experimental Interface

Gunner

Mara Jade

Weapons Engineer

Dauntless

2X Omega Squadron Pilots (100pts)

With Chiraneau I would have almost first shot advantage and focus-to-crit capability. But with Oicunn I could add another mode of damage infliction by ramming. With the seismic charge I could also leave this behind to further hurt the enemy formation on that initial joust. Don't think anyone would want to get near it. I'm inclined to think the Oicunn squad would be better against swarms while Chiraneau would be better against aces.

Which to choose?

Why not try both? Okay, okay, so you were probably going to do that anyway. I feel like the Dauntless title helps out Oicunn a bit more, so I'd try him first. However, I'm a little concerned about Dauntless and Experimental Interface together. You're obviously taking the Dauntless title because actions are important to you, but if you do both the same turn, then you will be double stressed. Hm. I guess the easy answer is just to abstain from using Experimental Interface on rounds in which you use the Dauntless title. That's easy.

I also like the Oicunn squad because of Seismic Charges.

I haven't played Oicunn yet so I don't know how that low PS is going to affect the play. Against small lists it would be weak for sure. But with Oicunn movement becomes a non-issue. Blocking him is useless. It's a pretty even tradeoff as far as I can tell without having played it yet.

Oicunn with Daredevil, Dauntless, Engine Upgrade, Vader, Gunner is nice. Fly into opponent's face, detonate said face, hope that when the dust clears the biggest threat to your ace is gone.

Chiraneau likes VI, EU, Palp, Gunner, that's a very strong build for him. Very likely to get R1, and when it does, very likely to get boom/boom/kaboom/kaboom results when the dust settles.

I'd usually run a decimator with a tooled-up ace though, rather than with a pair of generics. Generics just die too easily.

Oicuun is objectively cooler and manlier

Can also replace expose for EU and EI for Daredevil

Wep engineer doesn't do much of anything; could be extra munitions and an int agent to help with seismic placement/blocking

Omega squaddies need crackshot
