Overclocked R4

By pcgamerpirate, in X-Wing

Back to the Drea comment. Might be quite funny with Drea and Manaroo. Manaroo passes a focus that Drea's unclocked can maintain for the turn and her native ability maitains TL. She gives Tycho's stress pile a run for its money. Slap BTL-A4 on to just make it insulting that she can fire 3 fully modified shots...

I too think that this may have more impact in the future with the Havoc or ARC-170.

I give you:

Contracted Scout (25)
Bodyguard (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Overclocked R4 (1)
Ion Projector (2)
Prince Xizor (31)

Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Unhinged Astromech (1)
Guidance Chips (0)
Total: 100

can we give bodyguard back?

hm.

Attani Mindlink + this + a ship somewhere that can handle shrugging stress and gaining focus every round, and you're away laughing.

Now I'm even more annoyed that the StarViper didn't come out looking more like a 3-attack TAP; it would've made Guri (or Xizor, to ablate the obvious 'kill him first' target priority!) + infini-focus stress-craft an absolute terror. As it is, it's... decent. But it's either a hail-mary defensive card/reusable glitterstim, or it's in the wrong slot. Would've been a phenomenal crew ability (hello, 4LOM, Mouldy Crows, and/or Palob!), though. Probably why it's a 'mech. ;)

In a JM5K, you'll be forfeiting red maneuvers and actions, to gain unlimited focus, and the ability to Reroll enemy defense dice. Not a bad deal I think; the weak link is probably 4-LOM, who might get focused down if you are not careful.

Another interesting mindlink candidate may be a cloaked Palob.

TLTs with unlimited focus. I think I see sky pieces around.

Well, for a round. It's like a Recon Specialist that costs a stress to activate. You get all the focus you can use for that one turn, but what are you going to do with a Y-wing's greens on the following round?

On one hand, just what quad TLT needed, a buff. Neat. >_>

On the other, well at least it isn't doing a hard 3 green next turn.

I think it buffs TLT. You can get by on 3 banks until a 1 or 2 straight is appropriate. So often with 5x Autothruster Alpha I'm saved by my opponent only having 1 focus.

If you want both TLT shots modified you should have to go with a rec spec HWk/K-Wing or pay 26 points for Agromech, which prevents you from running 4.

I don't understand what is with FFG and releasing buffs to already top tier/overpowered stuff. Kanan Dash and now this. Dash and quad TLT were already very good, they did not need buffs.

false, Manaroo is just kangaroo jack in disguise

I'm pretty sure that a Manaroo is like the kangaroo version of a centaur.

I'm not sure an extra Proton over Plasma is a gamebreaker. Some nice defensive options with the extra Focus token, though.

What are the stats on Chipped and TL Proton Torps? Isn't it like a90% chance or something ridiculous of 4 hits?

Plasmas have a little bit less of a chance of 4 hits.

IMO the extra point you save converting one Agromech U-Boat to an overclocked could be also used for Boba Crett or 4-LOM. Now you can't spend that evade token Soontir, taste a 2 hit 2 crit Proton Torpedo.

That said, it's a situational buff for sure - yes, you enjoy focus on both shots of you need it, but once you do so you won't get any focus at all until you slow up to your straight greens.

So it's a way to supercharge individual rounds; a late-activating, token-dependent 1pt glitterstim.

A new option more than an automatic buff; thank goodness it's not a rebel upgrade. ;)

"Now Blaster Turrets Will No Longer Suck" said no one, ever (save for those hoping for missiles and torpedoes to be fixed).

I've been meaning to fly quad Blaster Turret Y's with 4 Agromechs. Doesn't seem too bad.

R4 + Bodyguard seems pretty okay to me....

We really need more scum ships with agromech slots, the greens on the y-wing cannot support these kinds of shenanigans.

Just give us Illicit that lets a ship install a merc-Astro!

Astro slot is something FFG didn't give the poor Kihraxz >:C

BTL-A4 sounds like a terrible idea on a y-wing that won't be able to k-turn ever. And If you're doing sttress shenanigans on drea, I'd much rather have r4-b11 to reroll my opponent's natural evades instead of reusable focus. I fyou want focus for both shots, just put recon specialist on manaroo and pass her 2.

Stresshog seems to do just fine.

The stresshog's purpose isn't to kill things. it's there to double stress opponent's aces so the rest of your list can kill them. It doesn't matter if a stresshog never gets another shot if it double stresses soontir round 1 so he dies round 2, or else to create large areas of zone denial where enemy aces have to avoid if they don't WANT to get double stressed. A normal btl y-wing does neither of those. if it gets 1 round of shooting and never gets to line up another shot, you wasted a whole lot of points.

True, but you're either using a Contracted Scout or Kavil as the Bodyguard....seems a bit overkill.

I don't see this being taken that often. For 1 point more R4 Agro is far superior.

It is. But there are a few points where it's better.

  1. A Twin Laser Turret Y-wing wants to be at range 3 - where it also gets 2 green dice. This may spare it a point of damage as well as boosting its damage potential.
  2. You can fit four overclocked laser turret thugs in a list
  3. It's a dual-purpose upgrade. If you're going to fly straight and level, you can use it as a cheap recon specialist. Or, if one Y-wing is getting hammered, you can assume it's got maybe one turn of existence left, and use it as discount glitterstim.
  4. Y-wings can survive without actions. A BTL-A4 stresshog does so handily. It may not do too much damage, but even an unmodified twin laser turret shot can matter; it's stil 3 dice.

Doesn't look inspiring. It is a sidegrade for quad-TLT, but ultimately Unhinged offers them more. It can work if you are really carefull with when you stress yourself so you aren't screwed by going straight and then it is going to be relatively strong, but only relatively.

I'm wondering whether a mix of Unhinged and Overclocked might not work. Say, 2 of each. Then you have a bit of flexibility about movement on some of them so you can guard your donut holes on the two which are doing the focussed striking.

Makes sense. TLT carriers work well in pairs, and one having the speed of 3 turns whilst the other can lay down more fire might be nice.

I suspect you can do some quite nice overlapping fields of fire with that combo, but I've not played anywhere near enough with TLT ys to be sure. And obviously you have to guess very well to get people to fall into them.

Kavil

- Blaster Turret

- Mindlink

- Overclocked

Manaroo

- Mindlink

- Unhinged

- Bossk

- Punishing One

Palob

- Mindlink

- TLT

Manaroo sheds stress, grabs a focus, everyone gets a focus. Kavil spends focus to shoot, get focus and stress and can spend it on the attack and keep getting new focuses for defense. Palob can steal a focus and hand it out in case Manaroo bumped or hit a rock. Manaroo can give away all tokens and get a focus back in case Kavil has a good shot at something and could use a TL.

OMG Dengar is gonna be even MORE broken now.

Seriously though, I'm expecting to see something in the near future that REALLY makes having stress a bad thing. IE a cannon that deals an automatic extra crit if the opponent is already stressed.

Eaden Vril gonna see a TON of play this year.

Want my next overclocked PC to be in an astromech frame now...

I don't know if this has any merit, but here is the JumpTank 5000:

Tel Trevura (30)
Lone Wolf (2)
Recon Specialist (3)
Overclocked R4 (1)
Hull Upgrade (3)
Punishing One (12)

Total: 51

Not sure what to do with the other 49 points, but you got quite a few options. If he gets ignored, he'll be brutal to face solo. If they go after him first, have fun trying to kill him.
