They look like hand grenades, but how explosive they are varies from one source to the next. In many of the video games, they're pretty worthless, but in Shadows of the Empire one of them vaporized a whole floor or more of Xizor's palace, causing it to collapse.

My guess is the upgrade/token represents a whole bunch of these deployed in a tight cluster.
They are suppose to be mini nukes, essentially. But why you would use them over ship grade ordnance, if beyond me. Unless of course it's the hand grenades bigger brother.

Only problem here (apart from the awkward point) is that hitting your own bomb sucks
See, you lop a damage off of 9 health deathy and I barely care. On Miranda she can just regen on the same turn. I've blown myself up to get more significant damage on blocked enemies all the time. Hell ive dome it twice today; even intentionally killed my own Biggs!
But STRESS? Not with those dials (and not when deathy can seismic roll into kturns while packing AC)

I am imagining them being a cloud of bombs that goes off at once.
Damaging like a cluster mine, but stressful like the cloud-of-debris from, say, a flechette torpedo (or heck, a debris cloud) is.

Funny how a handheld grenade does more than a bomb. At least it is priced accordingly at 3 points.
However a dozen or so does make more sense I would suspect the blast be a little more erratic and not uniform. Maybe detonating out to range 2 but having ships in the blast radius roll a red die.
But this works good enough too. Still I don't know if we can ever trust EU after it has been JJified.
