Master Rune of Valaya question

Master Rune of Valaya: "Cancel all damage assigned during the battlefield phase this turn." Does "this turn" imply that its effects stick around for the rest of the battlefield phase, canceling damage for the rest of battle? Or will it only cancel all damage up to the point it is played and resolved?

Thanks!

That's another particular wording...

I guess it refers to ALL ASSIGNED damage, if we just read it...It's similar to the Shrine To Nurgle usual question...We have a "global" effect (all assigned damage during battlefield) with the "suspect" of a different design intent...

Anyway, let's read the card until the FAQ, so, use it as it is: when you play it, it lasts until the end of the current battlefield phase.

Remember that all damage is assigned and then applied, even direct/indirect non-combat damage. I don't think this suffers from the same confusion as Shrine to Nurgle, because it doesn't say 'during combat'. If the Shrine said 'battlefield phase', as this does, it would be perfectly clear.

I don't think it can retroactively cancel damage that has already been applied - by that point there is no assigned damage around to cancel.

So at whatever point you play the card, any damage which is assigned during the battlefield phase from that point on, until the end of the turn, is canceled. Since all damage is assigned first, it cancels all damage.

Yes, I got it...What I wanted to say is that EVERY assigned damage is canceled, if not applied. So, if I play between step 4 and 5 of combat, I cancell all damage assigned for combat and all the upcoming assigned damage until the end of the turn.
