Simple question..
I don't own a TIE/FO and I was wondering if there is a difference in the models? Could I repaint all my TIE's and TIE/FO's the same colour and use different pilot cards?

The models are different, so only in a casual game could you use them as FOs (if your opponent was ok with it of course)

People will more than likely not be happy with you, and Yes, the models are different. Hope this helps!
Cheers guys, that helps a lot!!!
In all honesty unless you get up close the differences are not that great and personally as long as the base card and cards the player has are correct I wouldn't have a problem with this at any level.
Off the top if my head the features on the cockpit are slightly different and the connection at the wings is also different (inside the wings). The engine at the back is also vertical instead of horizontal. Unless you are superman though I can't see most people noticing this and having an issue with it across the table.
The difference is minor at a quick glance you can't tell easily, in casual play not much of an issue but in tournament play I can see it being an issue for some players.

fatter cockpit + wing connecting things + thicker frame on wings + bigger, more noticeable lasers
overall, the tie fighter is far more slender/spindly looking than the FO
the hatch is completely, noticeably different
+the hal9000 eyeball, I'd be willing to call bull on anyone who had a problem telling them apart ![]()

Are you, the OP, asking about painting all your TIEs the same color - as in every TIE has the same paint scheme? If so,as mentioned above, that can be problematic. If you were including both F/O and regular TIEs in your list then the problem is (should be anyway) obvious. And the rules do not allow for this as ships must be what they are. By the Organized Play rules even the modified ships, albeit cool most of the time, are not legal for OrgPlay events.
Having said that, I would not have a problem with it - as long as you didn't mix the two in the same list and I have to try to mentally keep track of it all.
I would NOT be happy with anyone who paints a TIE Fighter to look like a TIE/fo.
The rules DO allow re-paints so long as the physical form of the ship is not modified, however in the case of these two ships, that look NEARLY identical, this would feel unsporting, and would be heavily frowned on.
Similar if you painted all your z-95s to perfectly match X-Wings, and then mixed them in a list with each other. It's legal but will likely ruin the game for your opponent.
someone not being able to tell zs from xs is definitely not the problem on the part of the painter
might as well make E-wings illegal because they have the same nose AND come standard with the same paint scheme as the X
Edited by ficklegreendiceThere's a whole discussion in the rules forum about that point, so let's not turn this thread into that.
What to OP asked was can he repaint his normal TIEs in order to use them as FOs.
And as has already been covered, yes in casual play if your opponent is ok with it. No at official events.
Case closed.
