New player questions

By Shenannigan, in Star Wars: Armada

A) storage options. What's out there? The smallest footprint possible helps hide how much I bought from my wife

B) I've played the learn to play scenario a few times. We want to get into objectives. What's a good objective to start with to get used to not playing a drag out 6 round death match.

As always, thanks in advance.

Fancy storage options include

or

https://www.feldherr.net/for/star-wars-armada/

Both offer expensive bags with precision Armada cut shapes, but also cheaper foam only + cardboard box carrying options.

For introduction to objectives I suggest one of the grab the tokens type games like Intel Sweep or Dangerous Territory.

I use a toolbox for my Armada stuff. It's not as fancy, but it works just fine for much cheaper than a custom made rig.

Look into the DeWalt stackable storage cases: http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00AUVX394
I have one for squadrons, one Rebel, one Imp. They stack together which makes it easier to transport them.

For the cards and tokens and all the fiddly bits I just use a small double sided case from Home Depot with small compartments.

For a starter objective, especially if you are used to death matches, try Hyperspace Assault. It might not be a "great" objective, but it is very fun to play.

I've got a good resource for new players, located here. Check it out - it's got a lot of good links to several spots to really get up to speed, and it's written for someone right at your level.

My first hyperspace assault...gave me nightmares.

I use some bin-separated plastic storage boxes from Harbor Freight: Medium and Small (there's also a shallower version of the medium one available that I like better but can't find a link to atm). They work great, they're super cheap, but still very durable. I think the mediums are $9/ea and the smalls are $4.

I have a pretty large collection (2 large, 5 medium, and 22 small ships and too many fighters) and it all fits into 3 mediums and 3 smalls with plenty of room for expansion. If you don't have a ton of stuff you could probably pretty easily get by with a medium and two smalls for quite a while.

On two of each size box, I'm removed the bins and replaced them with 1.5" upholstery foam from Joann's, which I cut with an exacto knife to fit all the ships and squadrons nicely. This isn't really necessary, as they pretty much all fit easily into the bins (except the ISD and MC80), but it's nice if you custom-paint your ships--keeps them from rattling around in the box and scratching up all the paint. Plus it looks totally sweet. :)

The bins are also really nice for small parts. I keep my command and victory tokens in 5 separate bins, my dice in another (2 sets fits exactly in one of the small ones), and my damage deck in another, so I can just pull out those bins and stick them on the table to keep all the little pieces organized during games.
