Which maps are being rotated next?

By vince1234, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Just wondering what maps are coming up. Thanks

You're in luck, they just announced the next rotation on Twitter.

Effective April 2nd:

Nelvaanian War Zone, Training Ground, and Mos Eisley Cantina.

So that is Leia AVP, Storm Troopers AVP and Twin Shadows expansion.

Except that you need to own Return to Hoth to make the Leia map.... which I kind of think is bad decision.

Not only did they only change 1 map but now you need to own all the expansions just to participate.

Ahh good catch yes, so basically after Store Championships any tourney will require those maps? Or just for the Regionals?

For example, will the summer kit use those?

It's based on the date, not the event.

For me personally, that's fine, as I own everything. For less eager (or simply less well-off) players, it does kinda suck, and since I want opponents to play against, it'd benefit me for people not to feel like things suck...

I think two of the three maps should always be buildable from core tiles only, on general principle, even if the actual mission isn't one of the ones in the main box - it'd give a much better likelihood that players will be able to come to some arrangement.

I did almost have a friend of mine convinced to pick up the core+TS and come to some tourneys with me, but now with the extra cost of Hoth he is definitely out.

That sucks for me, but I am sure this is good for others in some way I can't see. Refresh on maps people are sick of?

I hear ya. I don't really get it either. Considering that the OP community for this game isn't exactly booming you would think that they would be trying to make skirmish more accessible to newer players.

I can't get any of my X-Wing buddies to play for the same reasons.

Where is this news on the Twitter feed I must be blind because I can't find it.

I was pretty bummed by the current set (and so will probably be with the next - though I do intent to get Twin Shadows and Leia soonish), as I was strongly considering a store championship in two weeks time, only to find out that I don't have a single one of the maps currently in rotation. Also couldn't see which sets they came from.

Twin shadows, stormtroopers, royal guard champion

Obviously I can't speak to all events, but the couple events I've been to have been casual enough that many players who didn't have all the maps & tiles were still able to play.

So I would encourage everyone to go to your local events. Bring the tiles you do have and I have a feeling that the other players and organizer will cover the rest. Plus you may meet some people to play with in the future! :)

Yeah, contact your local store that puts on tournaments and just see who all has what available for maps. Our store prints out maps cheap from pixartprinting.com. Between theirs, mine and some others we have enough for a 12 person tourney. And then we have at least three or four more easily from people's actual physical tiles.

So aside from the initial 5 month active map time (which subsequently had 2 maps rotate instead of 1) there has been a fairly regular rotation every 3 months or so where the oldest map rotates out and a new one comes in.

We can probably expect another announcement 3 months from now saying that on the 1-2nd of July Training ground Mos Eisley Cantina will rotate out with a new map coming in.

Edit:

Got Training Ground and Mos Eisley Cantina rotation in time mixed up, my bad.

Thankfully my SC will be before the end of March, or otherwise I'd have to bow out.

As I said in another thread this is a bad move on FFG's part. Because you are now telling someone who's only interested in skirmish that the entry fee to the game is now $200, and that's just so you have the tiles... That doesn't include the price of any A&V packs you may want.

You only need all those maps if you are playing sanctioned toufnaments, and even then you only need an amount of maps equal to half the head count.

Reality is, you only have a 200$ entry point if you both want to play competitive tournaments AND your local TO and/or the other players do not adhere to Wheaton's law, in which case you shouldn't play/hang out with them in the first place.

You only need all those maps if you are playing sanctioned toufnaments, and even then you only need an amount of maps equal to half the head count.

That depends on half the people bringing the maps, and if you're playing at say a Store Championship or Regionals you can't know if the person you'll be playing has the tiles or not.

So no it's not really as simple as you make it out to be. If you show up at SC you may run into an issue if you don't have them. If you go to Regionals it's even more likely. Because they are listed as required components and if neither person has them they could both be DQ'ed for the day.

Don't you think it would be the Cantina rotating out on the next round? This rotation will be it's third time up and only Training Ground's second.

Actually yes, you are right i has the list in the wrong order, Cantina will be rotating in July, not Training Grounds
