Hey guys. Just wondering how people are intending to use the Illicit Cloaking Device?
My first idea (aside from on the Mist Hunter) was on Talonbane. I figure that he'll get into range 1 more often, so long as I can predict other ship movements.
Anyone got any grand plans?
Only place I've used it so far is on guri in a list alongside manaroo (both with mindlink). The biggest problem with cloaking is that it uses your action, which means you can't focus for defense (though guri can still get one from her ability regardless). Being able to pass multiple focus tokens to her gets around that limitation.
I was going to second that. Without Advanced Cloaking, using it eats an action, and takes away your firing. Add to that, you can't take it AND autothrusters and I now have 3 reasons NOT to use it on a Starviper.
I was thinking of the following:
Guri (StarViper) [30]
Ship Total: 41
6 agility dice until she's in position, with loads of maneuverability. Might be cool.
Edit: Advanced Sensors might be more fun than Sensor Jammer. And maybe instead of Juke, you go PtL, then cloak+evade+boost/barrel roll

Maybe I'm missing something. But doesn't the card read Action: perform a "free" cloak action? If it's a free action, you still get another action. Also, it's an illicit upgrade, not a mod. So nothing stops you from taking cloaking device and autothrusters.
Edited by KaptainWalrusYeah, the card definitely says a free cloak action. I reckon that is to make up for the chance to lose the card (which I kind of love, due to the scummy, knock off feel). Really unsure about the lack of advanced cloaking though.
I really like it on Palob, especially with Stygium Particle mod.
The problem with the HWK is that it lacks mobility and survivability. Decloaking into position during the first round of combat and getting the bonus evade token is really going to do wonders for that ship.
Later, if your HWK takes a beating, Palob can cloak up, get the free evade token, and still steal a focus token, thus increasing his defense with the 4 green dice, helping the team via the theft, and setting up a better position next turn using the decloak.
Big fan.

Essentially you use your normal action or a free action granted from like, Experimental Interface to perform the "Action:" requirement of the card. Once you pay 1 action, normal or otherwise, you're granted the "free action" of cloaking up via the illicit upgrade.
It is worded this way to make it "clear" (scoff) that even though you're using an upgrade card, it still counts as a "Cloak Action". This is necessary because you can't perform the same action twice in one turn, and they don't want you cloaking up twice. (I know that's not possible with this card, but it is with Leebo and Engine Upgrade, for example).

It matters, but matters in terms of interactions than how it actually works. The original Expert Handling just said "Perform a barrel roll". This allowed Vader to barrel roll twice in a turn, because Expert Handling's barrel roll wasn't an action.
Honestly, outside of running the possible "lol Guri does nearly every action in the game in one round" build, I don't think I'll use this one. I think this card is... Thematic. So, that's nice? But outside of that, I think it has limited utility and wont see top level play.

It is, at the utmost, 2 points for an incredibly temperamental bargain bin engine that leaves your mod slot open
Just slap it on and try not to roll focus. Must hunter should appropriately benefit the most due to being a slow bugger in need of repositioning help (also zuckuss can hit PS 9 and substitute predator with dengar crew)
Don't stygium, you're just wasting more points when it inevitable craps out on you
Edited by ficklegreendiceI haven't play tested anything yet but the usual suspects come to mind: Talonbane, Xizor, Guri, Palob, Mux, N'dru. Either for getting into a good position with de-cloaking or cloaking to tank up and avoid shots.
Really don't think a starviper needs it between boost/roll and xizor just generally not giving a ****
The non repositioning ships will get the most of it. Outside the misthunter, MUX and palob are big winners through sheer troll value
I plan to fit the cloack, and try to never use it.in the event I have no shots, I will cloack for a defensive bonus and aided repositioning next turn.
If you look at it more like, action increase your agility by 2 but do not preform attacks. It's a decent looking 2 point upgrade especially if you have a focus from somewhere else.
I like it on Palob and N'Dru.
N'Dru wants to use Lone Wolf and be a flanker, but he lacks the bonus mobility to get into a decent flanking position. Early game decloaks are gonna help that lil' X-Wing wannabe.
In addition to that, if he should ever end up in R1-R2 of a friendly, and all his abilities switch off, this is a nice panic button that can add to his defense, and help him regain R3 next turn using the decloak.
I like mux win just cloaking. It makes him pretty nasty to kill. He can use his ability while cloaked and really other than tlt versions, I haven't really missed not having his attack while still getting his ability.

Might as well throw a 2 point autoblaster or 3 point dorsal turret on him unelss you're super strapped for points
