They're on Q&A. No X-wing announcement.
Countdown to FFG Star Wars Panel at GAMA - 3/16 @ 11:00 am
no new ships
Wow. For a sec I thought he was joking about Q&A.
Bummer. But oh well. I mean, we are getting new ships this week.
I'm rather surprised that they sold out on those dial covers that quickly.
Ouch.
On the bright side, nothing to distract from the enjoyment of Wave 8! And perhaps no X-wing announcement because it will be Rogue One inspired? Probably not the case though.
Jeeze, five days in Vegas? No wonder the game retailers are having a hard time - they need to shorten up the whole convention and get everyone back to their businesses.
That IS their business...
I've been to enough industry events to tell you that 90% of what happens at a trade show is fluff. Business happens behinds the register - not in Vegas.
I know there to be a furniture trade show in Vegas which brings in so many buyers that furniture producers pay a hefty monthly fee to have a booth there when the trade show itself is only a week or two out of the year.
If trade shows weren't bring in sales, no one would go to them. But, maybe the tabletop/board game industry is different and they are all idiots and losing profits.
I dare say that the average furniture store is going to be quite different than the average game shop - the economy of scale is very different. The former likely has a sophisticated purchasing department whereas the average game store has a dude who cleans the bathroom, updates the website, and cuts PO's. Showing up to a tradeshow and placing orders for large businesses make sense - they've done the forecasting and they know what they need. Showing up to a tradeshow and placing orders for a small business is the worst possible idea - they don't know their on hand inventory and are literally taking a stab in the dark as to what they need.
Tradeshows are for building relationships between vendors and retailers, see new brands and products, and networking between dealers.
Edit: And shouldn't take more than a few days. GAMA is at what, Ballys? Their convention floor is a pinprick compared to some of the bigger venues - if you don't faff about, set appointments in advance, and go in with a plan you shouldn't have to be away from your store for more than 48 hours.

Yeah me too. When I saw them I didn't get the appeal and would have not thought they would have sold well. But apparently people are pretty interested in them, maybe FFG took the same cautious approach and did a, fairly, small initial run.
Yeah, a 2 and a half hour final game has issues.
So when is the NEXT big, player-attending convention?
That was kind of a drag! The Store Finder thing sounds interesting but I would like to hear something about what's forthcoming.
Interesting point about the long tail of X-Wing product though; the Millennium Falcon remaining one of the top-selling ships isn't a surprise, but the implied numbers are kind of ridiculous.
So when is the NEXT big, player-attending convention?
Adepticon
So when is the NEXT big, player-attending convention?
Well, there's Adepticon in 2 weeks, where they're doing the Hoth Open, but no clue if they'll be announcing anything there, or just running the event. I'd lean towards the latter.
So when is the NEXT big, player-attending convention?
Adepticon in just a couple of weeks. FFG will have a huge X-Wing tournament, but I don't know about a panel or anything.
I love how many of us are reading this topic. So who's stoked to go pick up their ships tomorrow? ![]()
Going to crack down on selling OP products.
Want to do more release events like Kessel Run and Imdaar Alpha.

I wish.
Official X-Wing charity events in the works.
Apparently they will be supporting a "World's Party" for local stores during Worlds.

"in 2016 and especially 2017" no less! Very exciting. I'm glad we're getting more widespread prerelease tournaments. They're fun and they're the only tournaments that provide truly valuable prizes.
So when is the NEXT big, player-attending convention?
I wouldn't expect any announcements until GenCon or SW experience. (Donno how much they are being pressured to be 'brought into the fold' to have to hold stuff for experience). GenCon is great for them since they can showoff prototype models and all.
FFG seems like a pretty great buncha nerds.
Adepticon is at the end of the month. Do they have a panel scheduled there?

None on the schedule last I checked. ![]()
