RAC/Whisper ...heavy on offense?

By Velvetelvis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Trying to do as much damage as possible per turn.

RAC, predator, engine,Vader

Whisper(I think this called buzzsaw)...ACD,FCS,gunner,V.I.

100pts.

Am I setting this up correctly?

Keep RAC out of arcs as much as feasible... Vader when it matters most.

Harrass with whisper and keep her alive for endgame?

I haven't looked up the "standard" for RAC/whisper builds but I have seen a bunch of battle reports and the list varies wildly.

Do I have a handle on how this works?

Thanks gang!

I'm also not completely opposed to taking whisper out for something harder hitting... Maybe 38 point procket Vader and fidgeting to fit palp onto the decimator instead?

I just like phantoms. (I actually prefer echo but I'm Leary of the lower p.s. for a.c.d. purposes.

The only suggestion I have is that many will put Gunner on RAC and leave Whisper crewless since RAC has a slightly lower hit chance and therefore a slightly higher chance to proc Gunner.

Agent Kallus might be better than gunner, if you have him. Free up a couple points for another crew on the decimator, maybe rebel captive?

Gunner, Vader on RAC is stupid good. Of course use it sparingly but being able to put two crits on a Fel (for example) even if your shots don't hit is pretty great. If you're comfortable flying Whisper, keep her. The end game advantages of a 4 die ship that moves like a Phantom are too great to pass up.

Could also add some survivability for the Deci by dropping it down to Kenkirk and replacing Captive with Isard. Gain 1 agility and an evade token after you start taking on damage cards. Only problem is how much will he be focus fired with those abilities at PS6.

If I only own one copy of gunner, wich ship should I park him on? Or should I say to hell with it and get a second firespray or a.. Sigh....2400?

I would run vesery when veterans comes out, but for now vader and RAC is really good

You should be able to get an Alt Art Gunner for way less than a Firespray

RAC should get Gunner, definitely. I've found that Gunner is often overkill on Phantoms, especially if you are using FCS. And Vader/Gunner is a hilarious combo.

And yes, this is definitely an aggressive list. I've played it (RAC/VI/Vader/Gunner/Engine, Whisper/VI/Intel Agent/FCS/ACD) and most of y matches were, one way or another, over in about half an hour. You put out a tonne of fairly consistent damage, but have 1 ship with no defence dice at all, and one with a lot of defence dice if you're lucky with who you're facing (i.e. nobody with higher PS) but comparatively little defensive modification and very few HP. It's a glass cannon list.

I am afraid.

all the wave 8 stuff around come saturdays SC.... sigh.

very scared.

practically shaking.

the u boats will tear this up.

UGH!!!!!!

Thinking about taking gunner off the DECI, it seems to hit a lot and gunner not getting triggered..... curently thinking of another way to use those 5 points. maybe defensively or something.......stress maybe........rebel captive? ugh.....UGH!!!

I anticipate U-Boats as being the toughest match-up. You should include Ysanne on RAC over Rebel Captive, as Ysanne will be more effective in that fight (she's good in every fight).

Use your speed and your bulk to your advantage. You need to come as close as possible to R3 without actually being in R3 before the first round of combat, then slam into a U-Boat with 4 forward on the following turn. Either you bump and don't take the torpedo, or you land in R1 and take the slightly less damaging primary weapon attack. With Predator and RAC ability, you can still dish out major damage without your action to another nearby U-Boat.

Charge those pitiful fools. Their long range torpedoes will not avail them, once you get up close and personal. They'll struggle in vain not to bump and still find their arcs.

The power of the Dark Side can not be overcome...by toilet seats.

THAT IS THE PEP TALK THE DARK LORD ORDERED.

I even considered removing gunner and taking the crew off the phantom to fit a palpatine with vader. but...eh...hmmm.
