Character Ssi-ruu (Because Why Not)

By Sliprunner, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've got an unusual race to try and get involved in Edge of the empire, based around some very flimsy loopholes of course. The race in question is the Ssi-ruuk because dino peoples. Considering they (obviously) don't exist as a player race I am seeking to create stats for them. Digging around books I've got I assembled the following for them so far. I'll be listing the current stats along with reasoning for them.

Ssi-ruuk (Or Ssi-ruuvi in some cases, Ssi-ruu is singular)

Wound Threshold: 12 + Brawn (They are durable, but mostly because they aren't as easily hurt)

Strain Threshold: 8 + Willpower (They have a very rigid and fixated mindset)

Starting XP: 60XP (Reduced because of volume of other capabilities)

(3) Brawn, (Comparable to an adult wookie in strength)

(3) Agility, (Remarked as surprisingly agile for their size)

(2) Intellect, (Average)

(2) Cunning, (Average, they do have some trickery, but its backfired a few times)

(1) Willpower, (Because of how easily their race had been fooled in lore...repeatedly)

(2) Presence (Average)

Toughened Scales: Ssi-ruuk start with a rank in the "Enduring" talent ("Their skin was so thick it could withstand blaster shots with only minor burns to show for it")

Advanced Olfaction: Ssi-ruuk add 1 Blue Perception checks involving the sense of smell. (They have a very keen sense of smell, being able to "read" a person if they know their scent)

Force Blind: Ssi-ruuk cannot become Force sensitive, and cannot acquire a Force Rating or Force powers. (This is VERY important part of their species, because they can still be influenced by force powers)

Reasoning for being in Edge of the Empire: During the time of the rebellion era, the Ssi-ruuk had reached outlying worlds of the galactic empire, where they were attacking colonies for victims they could entech. Secret arrangements had been made with the empire due to "received visions through the Force of a hooded Human who revealed himself to be Emperor Palpatine, ruler of the galaxy.". It is my understanding it would be possible for Ssi-ruuk to be present for investigation of the galaxy at large, given how little they know of it. (This is just my reasoning, considering people tend to tweak history, it could be for any number of reasons!)

I think they existed in Saga edition. That could be a good starting point.

Race spec is solid.

You could bump starting XP to a max of 65 and still be OK in my book.

1 stat at 3 and 1 stat at 1 to compensate always cost 10xp.

1 other stat at 3 cost 30xp.

So you get a starting XP of 110xp minus 40xp for a total of 70xp. Since raising Brawn always costs a little more then usual, because you get 1 extra soak and 1 extra wound, it usually cost 5 or 10xp more. So you'd have to spent anoter 5 or 10 xp to compensate. The total would be 60 or 65.

You're spot on :)
If one of my players asked to play a Ssi-ruuk, id ask for a solid backstory, but I'd have no problem with those starting specs.

I looked into their existence in d20 star wars. +2 Str, -2 Wis, two bonus feats relating to sense of smell, along with being force blind...and completely ignoring depictions of their agility or durability. Which wouldn't be major if not for the fact those are highlighted as traits of the species, especially the durability part.

That's fairly assumed, given thin grounds for them to be apparent. At very least it's still more sane then when I shoved an R2's personality core into a rewired B1 unit. As for the XP at 65, the reason it's at 60 is you also have to consider they have additional traits. I might end up reducing the XP a little further due to the fact they have Brawn 3 with Enduring talent, meaning they have a considerable boost to soak already, compensated partly by wounds only being only a little higher.
