Sell me: PTL+BB-8 Poe

By Rinzler in a Tie, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Talk me through this - am I missing something?

The other night I thought I had an 'oh my' moment about the potential of the PTL/BB-8 Poe build:

Poe Dameron

-Push the Limit

-BB-8

I have definitely heard of it and its "shenanigans" and hoped that this was a meatier Fel for the Rebels. My hopes included:

1. Reveal green maneuver

2. BB-8 barrel roll

3. PTL to focus (or boost) - given the situation, say, an impending bump

4. Stress

5. Green maneuver. Clear stress

6. Action that was not included in steps 1-4

But when I ran it last night I quickly learned that if you PTL (and stress) as part of your normal action, the following turn you have to do a green maneuver but cannot take advantage of BB-8 because the stress does not clear until after the maneuver is completed.

Sell me on this because I really want it to work.

Your experience is how it is. If you PTL after the movement, you have to deal with the stress the next round, which will likely lead you to PTL after the fact again, changing how the dancing Poe is used.

Ideally, you should always aim to PTL off of BB-8 when at all possible, so that stress does get cleared up. It's the same reason I like advanced sensors on my twin aggressors, so much green on that dial to allow two actions per turn with no stress. This makes you predictable though, so I wouldn't hesitate to pull a few stress-inducing PTL to keep your opponent guessing.

Getting a PS0 on Poe from a proton bomb from my son's K-wing taught me that Poe does just fine without VI, keeping in Dash's donut was still doable!

I'll be running a dancing Poe, Red Ace and a third wheel this weekend, and will post a battle report once I'm back. They will be games #8 and up against grownups for me, so basing the worthiness of the list on my results is strongly not recommended ;)

Nope... R2-D2 or R5-P9 on Poe...

Though, having BB-8 and PTL on Wedge does make me happy, though.

Something to note with Advanced Sensors... it tells you to skip your "Perform Action" that activation phase. BB-8 does not. Advanced Sensors doesn't give you the action economy that BB-8 and PTL does.

Something else to notice: Push The Limit is once per round. You can't BB-8 and PTL, clear the stress, take an action and PTL again.

This ship does become predictable... you know that they are almost always going to be taking green maneuvers, plus it is possible to block at least one of the barrel rolls.

It still gives you 2 actions without stress. It's not 3, but if you're running C and make a boost one of those 2 actions, you get an evade (a third action).

My R2-D2 will reside on Red Ace for my tournament this weekend, personally, and I don't have a R5-P9 yet. If I wasn't running Red Ace, Poe woud get R2-D2.

Okay thank you, both.

I won't doubt the value of regen Poe, but I like the prospect of flip green, barrel roll, ptl action, stress, maneuver, clear stress, action.

Considering running this with a tank like Dash..

I faced a version of this Poe recently, and I was surprised how mobile it was. So surprised in fact that it was the only game I've played recently where I didn't get an ordnance shot off with my Punisher.

Just be sure to ptl off of BB's free action for the combo to work, and keep working round after round.

I'm a die-hard Imperial player (due mostly to action economy - Fel, Whisper, etc.) and this Poe build is turning me...

This is all you should need to be sold.

Throw some focus tokens in and I'll take two

Yes, you're missing asty

Being able to bb8 the turn after trolling is too good and poe does just fine as a regenerator

The 3 straight green is awesome for BB-8, and the shenanigans to boost off of your barrel roll or after your maneuver, still get your focus token, and be stressless. The key really is to do greens pretty much every round to keep you going without stress at the end and able to do it again. You think being tied to greens is predictable, but it really is not in this case as you can barrel roll either way you want and end up in many different places. I really wish Blue Ace had an EPT, because doing this with him would hilarious

I've been hearing that this set up is better on Wedge Antilles (When attacking, reduce the defender's agility by 1 (to a minimum of 0)). I assume this is because he's good at getting into range 1?

Also, not to derail, but someone suggested this sort of build on Corran?
