Has anyone played the FFG Missions?

By heychadwick, in X-Wing

Hi All,

When I first started back in Waves 1-2, I played the missions in the first starter kit. There were other missions in some of the ships when they were released. I haven't played most of those, but I've been interested in going back to try them out. I think they would be a lot more interesting with a lot more variety of ships that are out these days.

Are some of the missions geared towards the strengths of some ships when they come out? Sure, but it's still fun to try. I want to use all those fiddly tokens that you have no idea what they are actually used for in some missions.

Anyone try the missions long ago? Anyone try them recently? Anyone try the missions from the new boxed set? Opinions?

I've played some of the missions. A couple of buddies and I just played the Gozanti mini-campaign. It was quite a bit of fun. We're pretty casual gamers for the most part so the missions are a fun way to spice things up a little bit.

I've done three of the Raider missions and really liked them. I want to finish them. I've started the Heroes of the Aturi Cluster campaign, though, and not sure when I'll get back to it. Those are all mission based and a lot of fun.

The missions in the Transport and Rebel Aces are excellent. The one in the Falcon is fun but clearly designed around having only the stuff that was out at the time available. The three-player mission from the Agessor isn't bad but is the worst of the bunch.

I have. I want to do a campaign based on them

I didn't even realize there were missions in the Rebel Aces pack. I'll have to check them out.

Senator shuttle mission is still one of my faves. One of the Shapeways artists came up with alternate cards and armaments for it, to spice it up. The shuttle really sucks as a combat vessel, which is fun in itself.

I love the mission "Cutting the Cord" from Imperial Aces. It is a ton of fun. The TIE Defender as the prototype with the TIE/x7 title is sick.

The missions are a great way to enjoy the game. I get bored with the 100 point standard. I really like the story aspect for the missions. Aturi Cluster is a ton of fun in this regard.

I've been also thinking that it would be a lot of fun to try out older missions with ships that weren't released at the time. The changes in the meta are pretty evident as I'm looking over them.

(Original Core) Mission 1: Political Escort

I've played this at least three or four times in its standard form. I ran a tournament using a more symmetrical version I cooked up.

Mission 4: Den of Thieves

I've played this a couple of times, and it seemed well-balanced.

Mission 5: Preystalker

Played it. Kinda weird, but that's the only impression it left on me.

Mission 6: Undeniable Assets

Played it once or twice. Needs to be rewritten so that the Shuttle can actually use its stop maneuver when rescuing passengers from the disabled ship, instead of taking an action.

Mission 7: Cutting the Cord

Played it a couple of times. The Imperials seem to have a huge advantage, but it's still fun.

Mission 9: Jump to Subspace

Played it twice, seemed well-balanced.

Gonzanti campaign kicks of Saturday for me, I really look forward to that. I played the GR-75 campaign about 3 times with that guy and just from looking at it this one seems even more replayable. Used to play all missions, but I stoped after a certain amount of expansions. Most of them don't look too cool. I did have a few matches of the IG-88 mission, though, that one has to be my favourite of the single missions because of the whole 3 player deal. Might play the new core set ones some day, but I'd rather play 100/6 probably. Still have a lot of lists for that to test.

My group tend to use the missions to blow the cobwebs away after concentrated death match games ahead of tournaments. I've always been more of a narrative player than tournaments until I started playing X-Wing, so I like to mix things up. Probably not best as a pick up and play game down your local club, but with regular opponents they're great! I've taken the Rebel side versus a mate who prefers Imperial on all the Epic campaigns, haven't done the Gozanti campaign yet, as it's blatantly screaming out for the Ghost as the main Rebel ship! Though a word of caution on going too wild with ships other than those available at the time the mission was released, the Senator's shuttle isn't going to last long against 3 and 4 dice attack Imperial ships...

I've also made custom models for most of the tokens, like the shuttles and cargo containers and such. Got a Shapeways shuttle for the escort mission too, looks *so* much cooler using that than a cardboard token! In short, definitely give them a go, especially if you're playing a lot of death match games.

I forgot about Preystalker. I really enjoyed the bounty aspect of the mission. Its the most fun when you sub out the Imperial faction for the Scum faction and play with the named Bounty Hunters. I expanded the points a bit and we did Shadows themed Boba Fett and IG vs Dash and Lando, I believe.

My little group has played a few random ones. We love them. As others have stated we find them refreshing.

I would support FFG if the decided to expand the game into this field. Like epic, it would be an optional addition to the game. The release of scenario packs with missions and select pieces of relevant terrain, items, etc would be great. Turrets, Freighters, Ion Cannons, AT-ATs would all be great additions to the game.

The missions in the Transport and Rebel Aces are excellent. The one in the Falcon is fun but clearly designed around having only the stuff that was out at the time available. The three-player mission from the Agessor isn't bad but is the worst of the bunch.

The 3 player worst of the bunch? I think the exactly opposite I have had so much fun playing the triple mission. It also serves a great role when you got 3 ready players at a game night, then all 3 players can play instead of one player getting to just sit and look.

Rebel Aces missions? I missed that too! I'll have to check it out.

Is there an online resource that list all of the missions? Does anyone know of one?

Xwing miniatures wiki?
