It seems like the game was just made to be expanded. I love the game play now, but I am intrested in seeing more characters, more revealed cylon abilities (i.e. more cylon charcters - Simon, D'Anna, etc.) and more events / crisis cards based on drawing from further into the series. With the end being a jump to Kobol - it's obvious that there must be some ideas rolling around on how to expand the game, locations, etc. I just enjoy it so very much I would eagerly await any expansions.
Expansion sets?
Check out the BSG game page at board game geek. Under the "Files" section there's what appears to be a pretty decent unoffical character expansion.
I haven't followed the show after the first season so what are some of the new things that could be added in the expansion? New ship types and characters?
There aren't any new ship types that could be added (they keep using Battlestars, Vipers and Raptors, and the Cylons never get any new toys), but a wide variety of crisis cards and characters could easily be implemented to cover material from the rest of the series.
Well, an expanded gameboard could be made if we consider the fleet's military additions during the series.
Stuff I would like to see in an expansion:
Definitely New characters- Dee, Kat, Felix Gaeta, Cally, Anders, Torrie, Ellen Tigh, Admiral Cain, Real Sharon aka "Athena", Gina "Number Six", Billy, D'anna, Dr. Cottle, "Hot Dog", Leoben, Doral, Cavil, Romo Lampkin, Etc.
Definitely more crisis cards.
More skill cards of each type, with some different actions to take.
More Quorum cards.
More location cards aka some of the other places they've traveled to/stopped at.
Earth card like the Kobol one for a longer game.
More loyalty cards (enough for maybe up to 8-10 players), especially more you are a cylon ones with new reveal actions.
I think there will definitely be an expansion that takes the crew past Kobol. I also wouldn't be surprised if there was an expansion for "Razor" to involve the Pegasus since Corey spoke so highly of that movie in his designer notes.
One thing I'd love to see in an expansion is the option for playable Cylon characters (i.e., Tricia Helfer, Dean Stockwell, Lucy Lawless, etc).

I can't think of something more boring. Playing a game with 8-10 people, you will quickly run out of skill cards to play prior to your turn coming around, which will be about 2 hours later.
I am usually one for long epic games, but in those long epic games I want to be actively doing more than what I would be doing in an 8-10 player game. By the time it would get back to my turn, I think I would be asleep.

True, you're probably correct there. I stand by the rest of my list though, especially the earth card then so at least the 6 players can play a more epic game.

I doubt very much that an "Earth" objective card would lengthen the game any. I'm predicting that the expansions will each add a new objective that corresponds to the end of each season (so the first expansion will have a "New Caprica" objective, the second expansion will have an "Ionian Nebula" objective, and the final expansion will have an "Earth" objective). The objectives probably won't lengthen the game, but will instead adjust the game flow and introduce new "phases" (like the Sleeper Agent phase). For example, a New Caprica objective could read:
3: Sleeper Agent phase - deal out a second loyalty card to each player.
5: Pegasus phase - the Pegasus board is now accessible from Galactica. Shuffle the Pegasus crisis deck into the Galactica crisis deck.
8: New Caprica - if the fleet jumps once more, the humans win.
If any objective cards *do* extend the required distance past 8, then I'm sure that there would also be new destination cards provided in the expansion that allow the fleet to jump 4 or more in a single jump. The designers wouldn't deliberately add anything that would make the game significantly longer than it already is.
I'd like to see an expansion that adds in the 'minor' characters as just that - minor extras. So you get your main character and an additional one, that has some 'one use' abilities. Having more cards to add to the Crisis deck, or an alternative Crisis deck - to add more variety.

Awesome idea - perhaps the NPCs are like the title cards - when you are a cylon, you lose them - or flip them over to be Cylon assistants.
I like the idea of each character having his retinue - in line with the show. Baltar always had Gaiter following him around, Roslin had Billy etc etc...
What is nice is that this game is clearly series 1... sereis 2 had pegasus - so you have human v human v cylon mexican stand-off possibilities.
You also have series three which is essentially the Iraq insurgency, but twisted so that the humans are the insurgents...
Considering how awesome this first game is I would hope that this does allow for a BSG II - but rather than doing more of the same, there are possibilities for all sorts of other games, whether a straight up combat game, or insurgency game - or even exploring the later stages of the series with the final five, and the Cylons who throw their lot in with the humans causing the cylon war.
For now - this game is perfect, although I think adding retinue in the same way as the title cards to bring in more of the cast to the game might be a good mini-expansion.
I find this game so exciting - I struggle to be coherent!
Retinue... you keep using this word, but I do not think it means what you think it means.
I do hope that the events on New Caprica are depicted by some sort of short mini-game that takes place at the end of a standard game featuring the "New Caprica" objective, the setup of which is determined by the performance of each side during the course of the main game.
Any ideas how such a mini-game might be implemented?

Maybe like another objective card like the Kobol one where once you reach a "New Caprica" jump distance you move from the Battlestar/space Game board to a New Caprica mini board with new locations depicting the events there. And then, once you hit enough crisis card jump icons that you would auto jump, you move back to the Battlestar/Space game board.
Would be sweet.

I wonder if that is why the Kobol card is a card, instead of printed on the game board?

maybe in the future they are going to be more "quest" cards.
Sure it could be nice to get an expansion set with new characters from the TV show!
Most of the fans are expecting this, no?
To me, a expansion with more possibilities for humans to achieve victory, other than just reaching Kobol, should be more interesting.
Ok it's a survival boardgame, but I think the humans' side is a little bit unbalance:
- One of the counter falls to zero, humans lose the game (hum, ok for the population and even moral, but for fuel and food... Hey! there are the raptors for this no?)
- The Battlestar is destroyed, humans lose the game (quite logical)
- Cylons centurions succeed ininfiltrating the battlestar, humans lose the game (and what about colonial marines? )
- You reach Kobol, humans win the game (Ok, and what if the Cylons are reaching it before humans?)
So, why not, like the expansion "Crown and Glory" for WK, define alternatives conditions of victory for humans! For exemple:
- Destroy the ressurection ship
- Gather the ancients artifacts (the golden arrow, etc...) to find the secret way leading to Kobol (rather than jumping again and again)
- And so on...

Sure, and that is what the cards that let you risk raptors to scout for fuel and/or food represents. But reducing a counter to zero represents it realy being finished. If you have no fuel at all you can't fly raptors so it's allready to late for that. The same with food, reaching zero represents the point where food is long gone and all have starved to death.

This would be represented by the armory location.

Interesting thoughts, though the first one only gives the cylons more ways to win and they allready have some options.
