Imperial Screed+Avenger+Overload Pulse

By Narthoraon, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi, I´m relativley new to the game and just brew up my first 400 points list. It´s build around the combo mentioned in the title. I´d love to hear your thoughts on it, mainly regarding the squadrons in it but every idea is epreciated. And wich objectives would you run with this list? Thanks for all your input :)

Imperials, 399 points

ISD-II (120): Admiral Screed (26)

Veteran Captain (3)

ECM (7)

SW-7 Ion Batteries

XX-9 Turbolasers

Avenger

VSD-II (85): Overload Pulse (8)

Raider-II (48): Overload Pulse (8)

Instigator (4)

Boba Fett (26)

IG-88 (21)

Dengar (20)

TIE Fighters (8)

Redundant overload pulse is a good call. If you're running this combo definitely have 2 options to exhaust all those defense tokens, otherwise it makes your activation order too predictable.

I don't think I would take Dengar with those squadrons. Dengar is really good for ensuring that your bombers can still go to their target (no bombers here), or boosting interceptors.

I personally would just opt for Dengar + generic interceptors, or Howlrunner + generics to throw a larger number of dice at squadrons, but some other players would do something else, or use what you have listed, and be perfectly fine playing it. My favorite squadron set is Dengar + Howlrunner + Fel + interceptors. Counter 4 on those interceptors!

Objectives:

Red : Perhaps opening salve, add some blues at a long range. Otherwise advanced gunnery for the ISD

Yellow : Contested Outpost, make them come to you.

Blue : Minefields is usually my fallback. Sometimes superior positions, but with only 4 squadrons I'd worry about the opposing squadrons getting through and getting shots on my rear. On the other hand, 2 of yours are rogues so its not too bad, but I think I'd still stick with Minefields.

I second mixing up those squadrons. IG-88 doesn't really perform in the rule he seems to be suited for, assassinating specific enemy ships. He can do it after the ship is already damaged by flak, but solo he would take a good three or more activations to take out a ship that's worthwhile. Boba Fett also seems really good on paper, but remember that he does his free damage when he activates, so he already has to be within range of something to use his ability. If he gets stuck into a big squadron fight, he's guaranteed to get his ability, but you don't really have enough squadrons to get into a big scrum and survive for too long.

I ran a very similar list with an ISD-II, VSD-II and GSD-I plus a few squadrons. I was tempted to take a Raider for the redundant Overload Pulse. Just remember that the Raider is very brittle and has to get into Medium range to use Overload Pulse. Maneuvering it will take some practice.

I personally find it almost impossible to get 2 ships working (as player 2), one for OLP the second being Avenger, honestly the odds of having 2 ships inside blue dice range of a ISD & VSD in the same turn are astronomical, Im not really sure it's a worthwhile build (not being insulting here, I mean it will drive you crazy trying to line it up, and if your opponent is halfway decent, that will make it even harder.)

You would be far better served going for the initiative, and having OLP on Avenger itself, so you can double arc at the start of a turn, triggering the combo with a single ship, and having the initiative should allow you that all important round where you have blue dice frontal. Ideally you want 3-4 ship activations to get the most out of it, and probably Vader as your Admiral, ISD II, Vader, Captain Needa, ECM, OLP, TRC and Avenger, should give you an average 10 damage from the front arc with no def tokens for the defending ship.

As for IG88, I found he is most effective with Mauler, and Fell, and a couple of Tie Advanced, its a real nasty combo, and can quickly shred opposing squadrons, standard or named.

And maybe a Jumpmaster so Mauler can keep flying in circles?

Hi guys, thanks for all the input. after I read your posts I modified my list, what do you think?

Downgrade Boba to a regular Firespray and take Gunnery team on the ISD.
