Triple Advanced Aces

By Sabier, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi guys, 1st post in this forum.

I'm building a list with three Tie Advanced to bring to a tournament soon. Now, I don't intend to *win* the tournament, or even classify in any high position (I would probably play PalpVaderFel) if this was the case, but I still want the list to be competitive enough to have fun in all the matches and enjoy my time there. I have been away from the game since the very beginning of wave 4, so I just want to go there and catch up with all the new stuff.

I had this in mind:

Darth Vader (29->35)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)
Juno Eclipse (28->33)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Proton Rockets (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
TIE/x1 (0)
Maarek Stele (27->29)
Calculation (1)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
TIE/x1 (0)
Total: 97
My thoughts: I tried Vader in this configuration recently, and I loved him. I want VI on Juno so that she can move after PS9 pilots, and with her special ability getting at range 1 to use prockets should be pretty doable. Maarek is there to deliver nasty crits after Vader and Juno have taken shields down, as he shoots last. I have 3 points left for initiative bid, to make sure I will be able to move after PS10 pilots with Juno, or in case there is a PS11 facing Vader. I guess a 98 point list should be safe enough for that, but I don't know how to spend that last point. Possible things to change are prockets on Juno and calculation on Maarek.
What do you guys think?

I love Vader and Juno in general, have never flown Stele though (use Colzet instead). My beef with Advanced though is that it does not have the red dice to hurt the other player. In my eyes it is better to have more red dice from one ship, than more red dice divided among multiple cheaper ships. Meaning - if I have one attack with 4 red dice, defender my have 3 green dice so one red dice has no "defuse". If you have 2x2 red dice (swarm), the defender has 3 green dice, and next attack he again gets 3 green dice so you double his "defuse" chances and all your red dice are "covered". Unfortunately, Advanced has less red dice and is still pretty pricey ship.

But it is a dodgy, little bugger :)

If I were you I would throw PRockets on Vader too and initiative bid be damned! But I'm not and I do like your list. :P

I've played in large tournaments with a 3 point bid myself and no one ever comes close to touching it. So I wouldn't worry about that one point unless someone has an amazing reason to spend it. You WILL have initiative if you go 97.

Very fragile list but if you fly it careful those 2 red dice plus a crit will do enough work to keep you in it.

I love Vader in Juno

Interesting... :ph34r:

Dirty mind jokes aside, I see your point about the red dice, but except for Phantoms and Heavy Laser Cannons I don't think it's ever going to get much better than a three red dice attack with one of the dice having nothing but crits in all it's faces, right? Although it requires to get a target lock that you can't spend on your attacks... so you are probably right suggesting that this list doesn't have the highest fire power ever. I hope to compensate it with mobility and nasty crits.

About prockets on Vader, I did think about it, and also about Advanced Homing Missiles on Maarek (probably the former option if any) but then I would need to scrap at least one point from somewhere else. I am really keen on Juno moving after PS10 pilots. Maybe a bit paranoid, even.

How would you fly three advanceds? I guess I should try to avoid jousting against most lists, but do you reckon it would be wiser to split my ships 2 to 1? or 1 to 1 to 1? Or fly them in formation? I'm always so insecure during deployment and 1st and 2nd turns... never know how to set up to avoid jousting.

I'd probably bin calculation off Stele. The odds of getting two hits through aren't great (aside from something fat and unwieldy like a Decimator or Y-wing), and a lot of the time he won't have a focus token - you'll have used your action to lock the guy up for your advanced targeting computer. Advanced Homing Missiles are probably a better buy.

If you want to save a point or two, Juke/Accuracy Corrector is a nice combination for Juno - you do lose that lovely PS10, though.

I usually have Vader go solo, mainly because of his two actions - unless I need to target lock, I usually try to roll and boost with him to dodge the arcs so he is quite hard to keep up with. When u go against TLTs though things get messy as there is no dodging out of a turret's field of fire - unless you get close to them :(

Fixed the Vader and Juno thing - that was a typo - Vader is more machine than man anyways :P
