Brazilian National Championship Final Twitch Cast

By sozin, in X-Wing

What: The First Brazilian National Championship Finals

When: Wednesday Mar 9th, 8 pm CST

Where: The Scum and Villainy Twitch Channel

Who: Joao Henrique versus André Ripoll, cast by sozin and KelvanTiberius

Wait, ...What?: Because Brazil only recently found a distributer for X-Wing in the country, things like regular national championships and access to X-Wing has been limited. As such, the enterprising Brazilians organized their own National Championships on Vassal.

Andre's list: Kenkirk + Predator, Ysanne, Palpatine, Engine; Soontir + PTL, Autothrusters, Title, Stealth Device (98)

Joao's list: Vader+VI, Engine, Title, ATC; Soontir + PTL, Autothrusters, Title, Stealth Device; Omni+Palpatine (99)

From Joao: "Ripas went undefeated so far. I lost the first game 100x0 and did my comeback in the tournament. There were 40 players. We followed standard FFG tournament rules for this size (5 swiss + top 4 cut) 1 game a week.

This was the first Brazilian Nationals on Vassal. The game is new in Brazil. Galapagos Jogos is slowly bringing the waves. Both me and andre have been playing the game since wave 2-3 bringing our stuff from american retaliers (CSI or MM). The game is more widespread now that Galapagos is translating everything, but since it's in the early stages we have vague promises of regionals or national tournaments."

I really hope Brazil distribution can get up to speed. Every Brazilian player I have played on vassal has been a class act and has had a deep passion for the game. They deserve to have access to this games components just as well as the rest of us do.

I'm excited for this finals and so happy u guys are casting it.

Regarding Brazilian distribution issues, this game has grown so fast since Galapagos started selling it. Although i have been playing it way before they appeared, there is no denying how fast the game has grown since they started translating the game.

The first issue is with the way FFG handle prints and reprints. They have to wait for the FFG schedule to print our stuff so we have Wave 1, 2, 3 , the new core-set, Rebel Transport and Wave 7 (yeah weird). They already said they have everything translated and are waiting for the print schedule.

The other issue is with Galapagos itself. I do think the game growned way bigger than they expected and everything sold out so fast that they couldn't handle bringing new stuff + old stuff. They had cash flow problems to pay import fees and release everything "from the boat".

The game is stabilizing right now but i do hope they speed up the proccess of bringing all the waves. I do have all the stuff, but it's way easier for friends to get stuff with them and get everything they can.

If it's crazy enough this way, now imagine "OUR META". There are stores that accept only Galapagos released stuff, so things are really crazy metawise. Brobots are super strong, and Han + Poe are also great. All i can hope is that Galapagos dont force us into a nationals with a broked meta. FFG has done an impressive job balancing the waves as they came out, but due to the nature of reprints we received some stuff before others.

With that in mind, me, ripas and mtrein organized this tournament to get our community together and play without restrictions. With 40 players, i DO think it was a success!

Hope you guys enjoy the finals!

Hey kdubb, thanks for the kind words. I know they were directed at me as well because we played in Vassal already, and I am pretty sure that you knew I am Brazilian.

Also thanks to Kelvan and Sozin for commenting and twitching the final. When torm3ntin told me that it would happen, I was overjoyed :)

Anyway, about the meta here. On some stores (dare I say most?) the tournaments are limited to what Galápagos has released thus far. Apart from what torm3ntin mentioned that we already have, we also should have wave 4 and/or 5 coming in pretty soon (not sure which order), which should again instir chaos in tournaments which are Galápagos only. I personally like having a different meta, but right now, the strongest squad by far is Han and Poe (and brobots, to some extent). So if someone wants to have a good chance at winning, they bring one of those, and tournaments become a bit boring. Swarms are also of course strong, but because of MoV and not many cuts (tournaments here range from 8 to 20 people, mostly), they are not so common.

Our Vassal national tournament has been a blast. Although Ripasmaster and torm3ntin are in the final, it has been anything but easy for them to get there... We have had some really tough matches! As torm3ntin already mentioned, he lost his first match (an ass-whooping 0-100) and thought he was out of the cut (we figured we'd have 1 or 2 5-0s and 2 or 3 4-1s), but what a come back :) And Ripasmaster had two very difficult matches, where he managed to scrape off wins with some of the best maneuvering that I have ever seen. Overall, I am very happy with the level of play. I came 3-2, having lost my second match to Ripasmaster himself (no, this was not one of his hard earned wins, I was, shall we say, stubborn in this match regarding my strategy... the matchup actually favoured me haha).

While we don't have any official Galápagos regionals/nationals, we are planning on a second iteration in the second half of the year.
