Fix for Large Ship pegs

By USCGrad90, in X-Wing

20160309_220048_zps5fyti31l.jpgI was having trouble with my Lambda coming off the pegs too often and not being stable. I took 0.25" inside diameter clear tubing and slid it over the joined pegs. I then placed the model on top and slid the tubing up onto the bottom recepticle of the ship. Trimmed the other end to allow it to go down into the base. Xacto knife cut cleanly through and the end result just looks like a fat peg. 35 cents per foot at Lowes and now I can pick up my ship and move it without it falling off. I think it looks pretty good and the scale of the fatter peg matches the ship.
My friend had a Falcon where the recepticle on the bottom of the ship had essentially broken in two and he was missing a piece. The tubing did the trick and made a very stable connection.

the fix for large ship pegs is to use epic ship pegs

it's a conspiracy to sell huge ships, I say!

Let's see a pic!!

Now that we have coloured bases and pegs on the way, I'd love if FFG could release some Epic grade bases and pegs. They've somewhat become the standard for large bases ships. Since they haven't done coloured large base sets yet, I'd really like them to go that way instead.

Just separate epic bases would be great. There's clear paints available, we can choose our own colors.

Magnets.

Yep.

Plus you don’t have to worry about models clashing when large ships start getting close with other ships.

A small piece of plastic wrap works wonders!

M-m-m-magneeeeets!

No, really, especially the ball ones, that allow the ship to bank!

I'm tempted to use magnets. I don't normally play with big based ships, though. I might with Dengar, though.

Magnets for the win I say!

My problem is that even where the pegs touch the base, it's loose for me. Do I put magnets there, as well?

My concern with the new bases is that wave 6 and especially wave 7 pegs are noticeably larger than previous. To the point that old pegs fall right out of wave 7 ships and wave 7 pegs just about break the "receiving end" on older ships. What size will the new colored pegs be?

Edit- mostly notable on small ships but I didn't think it warranted a new thread.

To OP: sounds legit. Can we see a pic or two please?

I've only been magnetizing my ships and the tops of the pegs, but thanks to you I've discovered that my R421 and R422 magnets (from K & J Magnetics) fit perfectly at the bottom of the large ship bases. Time to magnetize the bottoms, I guess!

With my standard large ship pegs, I've superglued some of them into 2-piece and 3-piece lengths, so that takes care of most of the wobble. If I jam them onto the base peg, they seem to stay pretty secure.

I've recently started to have an issue where my large pegs are breaking. The bottoms, where the triangular insert I'd cut will crack where the plastic is thinnest, then it will all break shortly there after.

I'm going to magnetize my large ships, but I think I'll have to start magnetizing both ends of the pegs to have themy work

I like this idea. I'm torn on using epic pegs. On one hand I like the depth of the ships at different heights sometimes and it does often prevent the need to remove crashing ships from pegs.

On the other hand, the large based ships on epic pegs sometimes just look plain assinine to me.

I''ll have to try that one!
