Keyan Farlander build

By Red 7, in X-Wing Squad Lists

SO... Let me first start with the BIG disclaimer that I am very new at trying to figure out builds for X Wing, so PLEASE don't be too hard on me :P

I was playing around with my limited cards and ships ( Red & Blue Core sets, Rebel Aces, A Wing, Millennium Falcon, Tie Interceptor), and came up with the following:

Keyan Farlander 29

B-Wing/E2 1

Weapons Engineer 3

Push the Limit 3

36 points total

I was thinking that I will make a move with Keyan that does not cause stress, use Weapons Engineer to get two target locks on separate ships as my action. Activate push the limit for the extra maneuverability and to receive a stress. Then during the shooting phase I can use a target lock in conjunction with Keyan's ability to change all Focus results to hit results by removing the stress token to increase my chances of hitting.

I know he is pricey, but I think this is not a bad first step into figuring out how to use the cards to support one another. Especially with a some what limited pool of cards to draw from.

What are your thoughts?

I think chewie is better than the engineer

My favorite build for Keyan is

Keyan: Push the limit, Advance Sensors, Engine upgrade.

I realize you don't gave the Advamce Sensors(comes in Ewing and Shuttle) but it is a great card on him. Great card on Bwings all together.

I have also been playing.

Keyan: Advance sensors, Opportunists.

Let's you Target lock and move or move target lock then use opportunist to get a stress and use stress and TL to do 4-5 damage a shot.

I will say Keyan is my Favorite Pilot to fly. But he does need the right support as he can die pretty quick.

Those sound like great builds.

Advanced sensors does seem like a really nice card to have for the B Wings. Paul Heaver used it on his B Wings didn't he?...

Hmmm....

SO much to think about!

There really are so many possible builds

Yeah there are a bunch of options.

On your build you could go Fire control system instead of the Weapon engineer. Gives you another crew to throw in there if you are set on the E2 upgrade. Once you get the target lock you won't lose it until they are dead.

I personally prefer Engine upgrade over any other Mod. But that is just personal opinion.

I think he did.

I don't generally like to put a fire control system on keyan; there's only so many actions he can do, and since he almost always gets push the limit (and never wants to focus) I quite often find myself taking a target lock action to gain the stress.

Advanced sensors on the other hand is amazing. One of the worst things you can do to keyan is make him bump and lose his actions. Advanced sensors saves you from this.

So I would say advanced sensors and push the limit are almost essential for keyan.

most of the things you can add after that are just for flavour... They can be very effective, but you'll want to watch out how many points you sink into keyan since he will be a priority target.

Upgrades I've found useful:

b-wing e/2

Jan ors

c3p0

chewbacca

heavy laser cannon (or mangler cannon)

engine upgrade.

There are of course many different flavours of farlander, and there's plenty of stuff that I haven't mentioned which is good.

The one thing I will say is: If your farlander build is over 40 points it's probably more than a little fat and you should consider carefully which of those upgrades you really need.

I personally like

Opportunist and Advanced sensors on Keyan - this is dependent on the rest of my squad obviously

It is not the most dodgy and situational, but the fact that you can remove stress from him even if you don't roll eyeballs, I like the 'opportunity' of rolling 5 dice at range 1 on a guy with the advanced sensors providing some maneuverability.

I'm fairly new as well (Bout 5 months in).

For Keyan Farlander, I was thinking os using:

Stay on Target (2pts)

B-Wing E2 (1 pt)

Hera Syndulla (1 pt)

Total: 33pts

Maybe put Advanced Sensors on if you have points to spare, but if you want to keep him cheaper this seems like a good option to me.

On the approach you could do a 4 straight maneuver to gain your stress (optional), then follow up with SOT and chase down your preferred target. Hera Syndulla will let you keep doing this.

I'm fairly new too, so maybe someone with more experience could confirm that this works. That's just what I came up with on my squad building app.

I played Keyan with this setup:

Keyan Farlander(29), Push the Limit(3), Advanced Sensors(3),

which I'd say is pretty solid ship. Push the Limit with AS will always give you at least TL and stress, possibly with barrel roll to avoid an asteroid.

I also once ran him with this 42 points setup:

Keyan Farlander(29), Opportunist(4), Heavy Laser Cannon(7), Fire Control System(2),

which made him pretty deadly against anything that bumped or chose non-focus/evade action (ideally 5 dice attack with target lock and focus denying bonus dice for range 3). You may add AS instead of FCS, as he is so expensive now that 1 more point will not matter. However, this makes him prime target and he needs to be paired with someone able to strip ships of tokens (like Wes).

I like Keyan with

Stay on Target

Advanced Sensors

Lets him TL or BR before moving, then switch any direction to get a shot which stresses him.

Or

Rage

Advanced Sensors

E2 + Jan Ors crew

Use AS to Rage, turn the focus into an evade, do a green to clear 1 stress. Keyan uses ability to clear another stress. You get full mod attacks plus an evade.

Before Hera came out I liked running Keyan with Stay on Target, Advanced Sensors, E2, Navigator. With that you could Advanced Sensor a target lock and then reveal your dial and choose ANY maneuver and get a stress token. If you're a higher pilot skill than your opponent, you have a high possibility of always having your enemy in arc. The only down side is if you did end up not having a target in arc you couldn't drop your stress so you were stuck being stressed at the start of the next turn so you couldn't use Stay on Target again. With Hera instead of Navigator you're not as maneuverable but you can keep using Stay on Target every turn stressed or not.

Has anyone tried/seen Keyan with Rage? Maybe add someone like Kana as crew? Sounds fun.

I really like Rage on Farlander, but Push the Limit is probably better. It's a bit cheaper and you can add Engine Upgrade for more maneuverability.

Here's my list, 50 Shades of RAGE!

-LIST-

I love that list. Great use of BTL and DT on those Y-Wings!

Rage is really fun on Keyan. Another good one is Opportunist, with a VI Wes Janson (VI as an ace contingency) on hand to token strip.

Keyan with rage is awesome. You can leave FCS off to save a few points due to Rage's re-roll ability. Put those two points into the E/2 with an awesome pilot. I suggest Hera, Nien Numb- both make Keyan nimble. Throw Jan on there for a free evade.

I'm a huge fan of B-Wings in general. Keyan is my favorite pilot. With low agility and a terrible dial, he is normally a high priority target. I almost always do VI + Adv Sensors. The barrel roll then hard 1 will normally put me in range 1 and out of their arc.

Skinny Keyan (33)

Keyan (29)

VI (1)

Adv Sensors (3)

If I have 2 extra points, I throw in B-Wing/E2 and Zeb. This gives me a lot more flexibility.

The below build is my suicide build. You have to run Biggs with him; however, putting an Adv Proton Torp into the side of an enemy big ship is beautiful.

Suicide Keyan (43)

Keyan (29)

VI (1)

Adv Sensors (3)

Adv Proton Torpedoes (6)

Extra Munitions (2)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Zeb (1)

I use Rage on Keyan almost more than I use it on Tycho.

Keyan + Rage + AS is a really comfortable 33 points. I currently run a 40 pt Keyan:

Keyan

RAGE!!!!

Heavy Laser Cannon

B-Wing/E2

Jan Ors

Allows Rage to be offensive and defensive, and almost fully modded shots when activated. Always chucking 4 dice, which is awesome. I run him with Biggs, and it helps him survive even longer.
