Inner Fire Ritual

By seba74, in Runebound

Hi,

need errata to the ritual card ''inner fire'' - this ritual costs 7 gold nad is like: activate before combat and take 1 wound and 1 exhaustion to inflict 1 wound on your enemy - which doesn't make any sense - would you help?

I don't have the card in front of me to read all the details but from your description is sounds ok.

This card could give you the ability to (for example) finish off an encounter instead of having to possibly go through another round of combat. This could be a life safer for some tougher encounters.

Would you be able to post the exact text of the card?

In fact it sounds like you could take multi hits of 1 life and 1 fatigue to do more damage. But I can't be certain until I look at the card.

Hello,

thanks for your answer Hein99!

So, the text is exactly like this: ''Acivate before combat: take 1 wound and 1 exhaustion to inflict 1 wound on your enemy''...

I understand it like this: you can only once - because before combat - exchange your 1 life and 1 fatigue for 1 enemy's life.

What's the point of buying that ritual and performing it in comparison to e.g. ''outer fire'' which costs the same as 7 golds and you can heal 2 wounds and inflict 1 wound for 1 fatigue in any phase?

Maybe I don't understand the text of the card because of my English or it is a misprint...

Help...

Hey Seba74,

After seeing that exact text that you posted I can see what you mean. I do used ritual's and I must not have come across this one in a game yet.

First I'm going to try and think of a senario when you might use this ritual.

Lets say you draw an encounter that deals 3 damage in Ranged and has 4 health (hearts).
Your hero is mighty and has 5 health and can deal 3 damage in Melee (and 0 in ranged and magic).

So, if there is a good chance the challenge/encounter can hit you in ranged and there is no chance that you can kill the challenge in Melee then you know you'll have to face the Ranged combat round again and possibly get killed!
So, you chose to use your before combat ritual and take a damage and fagite to deal the challenge a single wound (heart). Now you're down to 4 health (hearts) and the challenge down to 3.

Now! :) If the challenge hits you in ranged in the first round of combat you'll be down to only 1 life but once in Melee you'll be able to (hopefully) hit and deal 3 more damage and kill it. Sure you'll be almost dead BUT you won't be gran_risa.gif

I just made up this example but it is in the realm of possibility.

My 2nd point is... the other ritual you mentioned does sound much better... but it might not come up. Who knows which rituals will get drawn. This just added variety to the game. Sometime you'll get some cards that rock and sometimes cards that are just ok.
And I bet the dice you need to roll to complete the condition of the 'take a heart and fatigue to deal 1 damage' is easier to do than the other one.

But it is fair to say you just don't like that Ritual happy.gif

Hey Hein99,

Thank you for your help happy.gif

I thought as well that there is some hidden strategy in this ritual ''inner fire'' or that I don't understand the point until I found the ''outer fire'' card which is ok. I think it is just misprint on that card. The rituals should be in principle better than items, more powerfull. I noticed that unfortunately there are some literal mistakes on the other small expansion cards like an exhaustion instead of a magic symbol etc. I think it should be something like: take one wound to inflict two on your enemy - I am trying to change the text sensible. Would you have any idea how to make this ritual more playable (in comparison to outer fire)? I just took that card away and it is pitty for that nice picture on that... sad.gif

Well I took a look at both inner fire and outer fire and it looks like inner fire isn't particularly earier to achieve it's ritual movement dice condition than outer fire.
So it really does seem that outer fire is a better ritual but I wouldn't modify inner fire becaues of this. Part of the game is the random ellement of what will be drawn. If you inner fire then you just have to deside if what it does could help you. No point comparing it to out fire because it might never been drawn in a game. Or maybe some one else might get it.
I like this about Runebound.
