Dial Manipulation?

By TotallyFettUp, in X-Wing

I am suspicious that a couple of players in my last couple of tournaments manipulated their dials while I was activating my ships. Both times were after I set up a ship for a block, and I was still distracted activating my other ships, then looked up to see their dial in their hands.

I have no proof, so what can be done? And how can you prevent this from happening?

If you have suspicions about certain players, you may remind them of the rules for competitive game play.

In a competitive play, players are required to inform their opponent before touching any maneuver dials if they wish to look at their selected maneuvers after the planning phase is complete and the activation phase has begun.

If you have problems with rules compliance, you may call the TO to resolve the situation.

Here is the exact wording from the X-wing FAQ as found under the competitive play section:

"after the planning phase, if a player wishes to look at one of his dials, he must
inform his opponent first. Manipulating dials after the planning phase will not be tolerated."

General rule of thumb: If you EVER see your opponent doing something out of the ordinary, ask them what they are doing and then if it still does not makes sense, call a judge immediately. If you explain the situation to the judge, they should be able to handle it. They may just give a warning/whatever the first time, but will be aware of the possibility of cheating and if it comes up again they will have leverage to act and enforce a more serious punishment if required.

Echoseven is on point. No need for anyone to call into question the OP for "Whining" or to "Get over it" or even "It's your own fault." Echo got it, I applaud him, good night.

EDIT: Hida beat me by about 10 seconds but also has legit points.

I thought you had to let your opponent know if you were peaking at your dial after it was set. Was that just in my head?

Nope, not in your head. Once you enter the activation phase you are supposed to notify your opponent that you are looking at a dial you have set. You don't need their consent to do so, you are just required to notify them of your intent.

I've been guilty of picking up my dials to move them out of the way, or get them ready to flip as my opponent is finishing his action after moving.

It's more a mild case of ADHD for me, and a lot of times I just do it without realizing it. Always more than happy to stop if someone says something, but I do try to catch myself.

If I do look at it, I'll straight up tell my opponent that "Checking my dial real quick". Usually to make triple-sure I'm not about to fly off the board :P
