Pilots shared between factions

By SoontirFel, in X-Wing

I'd really like to see ships/pilots that can be shared between factions - perhaps with a special upgrade slot that can be either salvaged astromech/astromech/additional modification depending on which faction takes the ship... The ship 'becomes' whatever faction it is taken in and scan take thst factions specific upgrades, like

Alqous Marandi,Mercenary hunter 25 points

Attack-3

Evades-2

Hull-3

Sheild -1

Target lock - evade - focus

Slots -EPT, mod, missile, special variable slot.

Pilot ability - for each ship destroyed by this this ship place a 'target destroyed' counter on this ship.

When attacking you may Remove one target destroyed counter from this ship to cancel one evade result from an opposing ship

Or a ship that can take cards from other factions

Scrapper

Scum only, large ship

Attack - 1

Evade - 2

Hull- 5

Sheild - 2

Upgrades - mod, 2x astromech, 2x salvaged astromech

Opinions?

Boba Fett? Kath Scarlett? Y-Wings? Firesprays? HWKs? Z-95s?

I think what you're asking has already been done.

Why would FFG want to do it differently again?

they are SHIPS shared between factions...

when Scum and Villainy was first spoiled I was excited for the idea of being able to integrate them in to my imperiels, thinkning they would be a "merc" force...

Because it usually turns into a balancing nightmare. From just your example, R2D2 + Unhinged + P8. Not once was scum even eluded to as being a hired force for the other two factions, that was always hopeful wishing. Kath and Boba are shared pilots, and most likely will be the precedent for any other pilot along the same line.

for sure yes! it was 100% hopeful wishing...

i always found it interesting with artifacts in M:TG for example (and to a lesser extent, Dogs of war in Warhammer Fantasy) to see how they were affected by differing play styles and interactions based on which decks/armies they were inlcuded in

I'm fine with the idea of pilot sharing. Just note that FFG already has established out this would be done; if a pilot could be found in another ship and/or on another side there is a good possibility that some of its stats may change along the way.

Now introducing some effect that would simply allow something from one faction to play in another is going to have a point cost. What's more is that point cost is going to need to be high enough such that the "worst case" scenario remains balanced which also means that it will price out many of the other things you want to include. You want Fel to fly his Interceptor with the rebels? Fine, but it is going to cost some number of points and probably eat up a potential upgrade space as well making him far less cost effective.

It's done to a small degree with Imperial Assault. But when the Rebel/Empire hires some of the Scum cards, it's only one or two of them, and it costs extra to do it so you're bringing a slightly smaller force overall. Given that IA has only 40 (I think?) squad points, paying an extra 2 base points to even have the option to include another faction on your side is a steep price. But yes, you can have Han and IG-88 on the same team if I recall correctly...

Daym, let Wedge drive my Starviper!

So. Maybe an imperial title

Hired Mercenary 3pts

Scum small ship only unique.

This title must be attached to a small based scum ship. For all intents and purposes this ship counts as the same faction as the list taken.

Honestly though, if the slave-1 was never released until after SV, would it even be an imperial ship?

Lando and Han should have scum versions,

Half of the rebel pilots were imperial defectors so making imperial versions of them would not be far fetched

Definitely not.

Tydirium title for Lambda that turns it into a rebel ship when FFG?

While it might make for an entertaining scenario or two (and I do wonder if the ghost won't have such a setup in its box?), they're certainly not going to hand out such ships as open slather.
