Finally getting started.

I decided it was time to give this game a try. Just got my starter set, going to tear into it over the next couple days.

Happy to have another adventurer aboard!

Welcome to this lovely game...

Just thought I'd jump aboard this thread - am also fairly new to the game, got the core set and (eventually) completed all the quests solo. Now about to begin the Mirkwood cycle and trying out new decks with the cards as want to get the most use out of all the cards. Loving the challenge so far!

Awesome its a fantastic fantastic game!!

Just remember the main words of caution for new players with the core set:

Quest 1: A great introduction and lots of fun. Difficult with some mono-core decks but easy with some and very easy if you dual-sphere.

But.....

Quest 2: Awesome quest but pretty hard for a new player with core cards. You really have to deck build carefully and it takes a good few goes to get close to beating the quest.. great fun though. Id say mostly harder than the adventure pack quests from the first cycle.

and..

Quest 3: **** hard, one of the hardest in the game. Dont expect to win (though it is possible).

So be prepared for the steep steep learning curve and dont worry about losing, its part of the journey. The core set quest difficulty is a bit high.

Hope you enjoy the game. Give us an update when you are ready.

I also just started playing. So far I only have the core set, but am thinking of picking up the Mirkwood cycle this weekend depending if I can finish up the last two quests in the first set. I beat the first quest using all four starter decks, and am planning on trying my hand at a dual sphere deck tonight. I expect the first quest should be easier with a dual sphere than it was for each mono one so I'll probably try one quick dual sphere round on quest one then jump right into quest two this evening.

I recently picked up the game as well, already loving it. I can't get enough.

Sooo, now that the ebb and flow of real life has let me get a couple solo play sessions in (the main reason I picked up on this game was the ability to take on the adventures on my own, my schedule keeps finding a regular group difficult). I've put in about for or five walk through of the first quest with the Leadership squad. This was mainly to get myself in a routine with all of the phases. Most difficulty with the rules has been easily tackled with a quick skim back through the rulebook. The one instance I'm a little unsure of is the trap card web or what ever it is....the one which makes the hero it's attached to pay two resources to text the card in the next redy phase. Does this still apply if the hero redies before that phase? Also does this card stay attached, or does it get discarded once the two resources are paid?

Caught In A Web remains attached to the Hero until another card effect (such as Miner of the Iron Hills) removes it.

If your Hero is ready by the Ready Phase, there is no need to pay to ready him/her because he/she is already readied.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification.

I tried to go through quest one with the spirit crew, and got thoroughly walked on by the game engine....early draws of the orc chieftain, and virtually no support character draw really hurt my chances. Thing I saw about the spirit deck is it was full of cards that could pull you out of the fire in a tough spot, but not enough to keep you out of danger. I also noticed the Leadership hero's seemed to have a synergy with each other, while the spirit team didn't. Compliment each other too well. I imagine I'll have a ball with the tactics team, but I'll tackle that later on.

Another new player hijacking the thread, sorry OP. As a new latecomer to this game I would like to ask if the core set pre made decks are enough to complete the the first 3 scenarios. I ordered the Core set and Hunt for Gollum AP. I have also picked out the next 3 AP's from Mirkwood cycle and The Hobbit Over Hill and Under Hill as my next purchase, Am I on target with these buys or should I re address my purchasing focus, cheers.

The card pool is deep enough that if you have theme deck in mind, you can purchase just those cards, but if you do not I highly recommend checking out THIS buying guide.

Nope. Last scenario from CoreSet is almost impossible with only the CoreSet even if you are a skilled deckbuilder.

So the pre-made decks are good for scenario 1.

Scenario 2 is difficult with some (tactics might struggle in the end to quest and spirit might strugle to kill)

Thanks for the responses guys. I will find some time over the weekend to start learning and ex ring. I have set my sights on the next 3 AP, s from Mirkwood cycle and also dropping into my shopping trolley Khazadum and over hill and ubder hill. Hopefully that should give me a reasonably good start in life. Unfortunately I'm a collector and hoarder so I feel there will be some serious damage done to wallet over the next few months..

So say we all. If you are going to buy Khazad-um and Over and Under Hill I would suggest one of your AP being return to mirk wood so you have Dain Ironfoot

I feel there will be some serious damage done to wallet over the next few months..

Forced reaction: When a new expansion is released every player raises threat by 5 and lets the gaming store dig into his wallet.

Agree totally, such a money sink, I can't stop myself. Next step storage solutions :)

I got the cheap option covered. I'm so cheap that I buy boxes with included dividers, and use the bits of cardboard/chipboard from old LCG packs when I run out. The boxes cost me nearly $3 total with shipping, but it's worth the expense :P
