Story: The Anden Tolan Show

By Lanuria, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

My husband likes to write stories for the characters in our games. Recently, he wrote a story from the perspective of his Age of Rebellion character, Anden Tolan. He doesn't often share his own work, but he's always looking for feedback on his writings--and I'm a bit biased, since I adore anything he writes!

So, here is a link to his story, The Anden Tolan Show.

And here is a little preview!

Really, they should be grateful he had worn his Red Shift Limit shirt and greatcoat, Anden thought. It meant he was instantly comfortable in his captain’s chair at the controls of the Wayward Spirit, and because he had no flight suit to change into, he was first in line for egress when the blast doors of the Independence’s main hangar shuddered open. Anden blasted off, doing a quick roll to test that the inertial compensator was up to snuff before wheeling the ship around to face the Imperials that had entered the system.

“Inertial compensator’s still not working,” Koskit said from beside him in the copilot’s chair.

“No, that’s the whiskey,” Anden replied.

The Bothan glanced sidelong at his flask. “Son, it takes a bit more than my morning pick-me-up to make me feel like this.”

“It’s also dialed down to half for combat because I need to feel what the ship’s doing, so deal with it,” Anden spat back somewhat angrily. Too angrily. Something didn't feel right. Something beyond the fact that two dagger-shaped Imperial Star Destroyers were bearing down on the Independence. There was a third ship, too. Same shape, but smaller, with a quartet of swollen orbs bulging out from its frame. Interdictor Cruiser. Rebel traps.

“Kera, Tripod, shields double front. Then get reactive once the furball starts,” Anden said before clicking off the internal comms. Kera liked it when he included the astromech droid by name in the orders. He saw the power readings from dorsal and ventral guns in the green, knew IG and Slinger were ready to liquify TIEs. He punched it.

Also, I sure hope this is allowed! I didn't see anything about not posting stories.

Great piece of writing! Kudos to your husband! I try to write up my groups adventures... Whilst I think I do a half decent job I'm nowhere near this standard tho!

Thanks a ton, I will pass on your kudos!! (Maybe if enough people compliment him, he'll write more!)

I try and write stories for roleplay, but they never seem to come out right. I am working on making an in character journal for Kera Tolan, because she's been learning more about all the famous Jedi Tolans in her family and I want to make up this huge family history that spans out 3k+ years! I kinda want to do it on actual paper...but who knows.

I love reading stories of people's characters and I'm so glad you liked his story!! :D

That Bothan sure does sound amazing though...

OH GOSH I WONDER WHY

Have to admit I did like the Bothan's love of whiskey :o)

I had a request to post a few more of my husband's stories here, so I have three more that deal with Kera and Anden Tolan and their family history!

Happy Birthday, Make a Wish

The neonatal ward was quiet and the hall lights were dimmed to fit the pre-dawn hours outside. Vessa was in an exhausted, medicated sleep while her husband, Adlar, stood with his forehead gently pressing on the window separating him from his newborn daughter. Inside that sterile room, among a half dozen other infants, lay the single most important thing that had happened to him.

Footsteps echoed up the hall. Adlar turned, half-expecting another new father, but instead saw a woman in a black woolen coat and green scarf. He almost shouted when the scarf was pulled off and he saw her face, rushing over to give his mother a hug.

“Mom! What are you doing here, it’s a good… three hours to Coronet City from your house. Why are you awake? he asked, giving her an extra squeeze.

The Tolan Legacy

Adlar tapped a key on the projector to pause the looped playback. He looked up at Zerina with bloodshot eyes. “Mom… I did everything I could to keep our family out of conflict like this. What did I do to ruin that?”

Zerina looked over at her son. Half of her wanted to clutch him to her breast and shush him as she rocked him back and forth. The other half was the one that had been so quiet for twenty years, only resurfacing to break a glass during a military parade or randomly start a fight with someone at a CorSec fundraiser or make her boycott companies that vocally supported the Diktat.

“You raised your children right, that’s what you did,” she said coldly, almost scoldingly.

You Are Here

“Then we grow up, and it turns out the Empire’s bad! Told you so! And Anden runs off to start a fight, because he’s Anden, and I chase him and before you know it it’s time for the Tolans to save the galaxy, just like all the books from growing up, and it’s his! It’s his kriffing power. He gets to be the savior, he gets to be the big galaxy hero. I get to… fix things. Fix the war droid. Fix his ship. I guess it’s for the best, though. If I’d been born Force sensitive, the Jedi would have got me, and then I would have gone the way of the Jedi,” she concluded, throwing her arms in the air in a gesture of surrender and curling into a ball on the chair.

Zerina sighed. “Kera, I have something to tell you, and I don’t know how to tell you, because I don’t know how you don’t know by now. And that… probably sounds more scolding than I meant it to, because it’s not– oh, never mind.” Zerina took a deep breath and resettled herself.

Lemme know what y'all think! I always let the husband know what people say, in hopes he'll write a bit more. :D
