FCS vs Advanced Sensors for the Phantom

By Archangelspiv, in X-Wing

Hey Everyone,

Just playing with a dual Phantom list, never played them before, so why not play two right? I was wondering what were Phantom pilots thoughts on FCS vs Advanced Sensors. I am a believer of if you aren't hit you wont die, but conversely there's the theory, what's dead cant shoot back.

Are Advanced Sensors reliable enough to ensure survivability? Or is it better to go with FCS to ensure the Focus/Lock combo to get max damage?

Don't think I've ever even seen an Advanced Sensors Phantom. Sensor Jammer has been more popular since The Rise Of The TLT, but personally I feel like it gives up too much in terms of consistency of offence over taking FCS and, say, Agent Kallus or whathaveyou.

****.... when you play around with a build and try everything that can fit in a space, so much so you confuse the name of what you meant... I meant Sensor Jammer... and there is no way I can change the Topic text... What a noob :)

Even if the topic name was wrong, while we're talking about Advanced Sensors, I did run the phantom with it once. The ability to barrel roll after a decloak does add some maneuverability but in the long run FCS or Sensor Jammer is definitely better.

Adv Sensors aren't a bad choice, but you won't be using them all the time.

This Whisper should be entertaining, using the sensors to PtL before his green move or triggering PtL after the ACD, to token up even more.

The only imperial ace you wanna stress is Fel. A stressed phantom can't do a white 1 hard turn and get an action afterwards. Just not worth being predictable. You need VI in order to make adv cloak worth it. Ps9 phantom with 2 point initiative bid is better then a stressed ps7. Just my thoughts though.

As for the upgrades, it depends on the meta in your area. I used fcs exclusively for some devastating attacks for the longest time. But after the rise of tlts, I now use sensor jammer to my opponents dismay. If I knew without a doubt that I wouldn't be fighting tlts, I'd use fcs again just for the firepower. But jammer is pretty much needed when fighting a tlt, and Palp helps to take care of the lack of a tl from fcs.

AS + VI is how I usually fly Wisper.

These days? Sensor Jammer

Yeah, I just don't bother with thinking a ship can only be kitted out a certain way. If you can competently block, you can competently unblock and not need a PS9 as much. Sure, it's nice, but an absolute necessity?

Adv Sensors, stress before green, still unstressed and ready to go for the hard 1 the next round. Or stress after ACD to barrel roll or evade yourself out of trouble.
