multiple players per side in one big game question!

By Jimster, in Star Wars: Armada Off-Topic

Hey all,

Ok, here's the rub,

I going to organise a huge game of armada in the coming months and have a question for you all,

Has anybody seen any rules to govern a game with multiple players per faction?

Obviously a different mechanic is needed to prevent the game being kluncky and slow,

Stipulations on unique admirals and ships is obvious bit it's the turn sequence I'm concerned about,

Any light you can shed is much appreciated!

We played a 4 player, 2x400 point per side ally game.

  • Restrict unique cards between allies. No duplicates so let them fight it out as to who gets what.
  • Each player gets an admiral and that admiral only effects the 400 point fleet it is assigned to. We had Ackbar & Dodonna v Vader & Motti.
  • Used a 6x4 board but kept the original 6x3 in the middle of the table and didn't allow deployment in the new 6" added to each long table edge. This way the fleets begin the usual distances apart but have some extra run off room after a battle pass.
  • Use total combined point value for initiative and objective choosing. We had no extra rules about which ships activate first, just picked one rebel from either fleet followed by one imperial etc.
  • We kept the game length at 6 turns. If we hadn't deployed at usual starting distances on the larger board then an extra turn could have been added and if you go much higher in points then I would suggest it.

If you go for a larger game than this (1000+ points) then to speed things along you may want to:

  • Add an extra turn.
  • Restrict squadrons maybe to 20% or 25% rather than 33%.
  • Keep upgrades to a maximum of say 2 per ship or 3 per large ship.
  • Activate 3 Squadrons at a time in the squadron phase or activate 1 squadron per player at a time. If a player has no fighters left then tough.

I agree with pretty much everything you've raised,

I hadn't concidered the extra board room addition tho,

Good call there,

Many thanks,

If you get above 600 points, or 2 players per side, I'd lengthen the table a couple of feet per player (real people take up more room than model spaceships).
