So on Saturday I attended the Milton Keynes Store Championship. 46 people attended, so a great turnout.
The List:
Guri - Predator & Autothrusters - 35
Palob - Ion Cannon Turret - 25
Cartel Marauder x 2 - 40
So Guri was my ace, boosting and barrel rolling for the best shots. Palob would hopefully be a nuiscence, stealing crucial tokens and hopefully getting some good use out of the ion. The Kihraxz were my hammer, get in close and be aggressive and throw some red dice.
It was a long day, so I have forgotten quite a bit, so this is more highlights than an in depth report!
Game 1 vs Dash (Predator, HLC & RecSpec) & Chewie (Predator & EU)
This match was against Duncan, who had thrashed me in my last tournament 100-0 in the top 4 cut. I managed to slowly whittle Chewie down, even getting some good ion hits in, landing him on an asteroid, but I was losing ships to Dash. After Chewie went down, Dash took out the rest of my list. I did get Dash down to half health however. I seem to have issues with this list, Dash especially. Predator, HLC & RecSpec always seem to burn through my ships with ease. I did however do much better this time around.
Loss 73-100
Game 2 vs Darth Vader, Howlrunner, Wampa & 2 Black With Crack)
This would be my first taste of facing a some Crackshot Ties. My opponents green dice were very poor in this match, I one-shotted 2-3 of the Ties. Wampa's ability never kicked in either. I lost a Kihraxz and Palob, but took down his remaining ships in reply.
Win 100-45
Game 3 vs Poe, Miranda & Stresshog
The opening of this match didn't look to good, Guri had started to bank in towards the middle, but my opponents stresshog was doing the same. I thought Guri was about to get stressed into oblivion as I saw no way of getting out of his arc in the next movement phase. However the Y k-turned instead and with Guri doing a 1 straight ended up right behind him at range 1! The Y didn't last long. Poe and Miranda were then slowly whittled down for the loss of a single Kihraxz
Win 100-20
Game 4 vs Vader, Howlrunner & 3 Black With Crack
So I was amongst the top tables for this game, but this game went badly. Guri was approaching the swarm head on using an asteroid as cover, whilst the rest of the squad banked in on the flank. Vader was heading into them. The opening shot from Vader & Howlrunner took out a Kihraxz, a direct hit doing the damage. I managed to do about 1 damage in total. Then my mistake happened. His Tie's moved up towards Guri, ending in behind and to the side the asteroid. Guri then tried to sloop past them, however the sloop didn't fit and as we moved Guri back along the template, it became clear that she would clip the edge of the rock. Which she also took a hit from. 1 round of shooting later and Guri was gone. 65 points gone with no losses for my opponent. I did manage to ion a Tie onto a rock, the rock finished it off. I managed to take 1 more Tie, before I was wiped out.
Loss 30-100
Game 5 vs Fel, Whisper & Palp Shuttle
My first target was the shuttle which I sent the Kihraxz after whilst Guri tried to lure Fel and Whisper out towards Palob. The shuttle was slowly taken out by the Kihraxz and Palob with some handy ion. However in doing this I lost both Kihraxz & Palob. Whisper had lost her shields and was taken out by a Direct Hit from Guri. That meant it was Guri vs Fel, who I believe didn't have a stealth device, I may be wrong though. We danced around the rocks, any shots were few and far between. Fel ended up hitting the table edge by a millimetre and I had won it. Guri the hero in this one. Soloing Whisper and Fel! This was the toughest game I've played for a while!
Win 100-65
Game 6 vs Carnor, Vader & Palp Shuttle
This game was against Scott, who I hadn't faced before. We were also up on the 6th table, so currently in the top 12. Guri headed down the flank facing up to Carnor and Vader, Palob and the others headed for the shuttle. A lucky crit onto Carnor gave Guri the upper hand and Carnor went down shortly afterwards. Vader did get some hits through of Guri. The shuttle followed soon after as did Palob and Guri. So it was Vader against 2 Kihraxz. I lost one ship in exchange for taking Vader down to 1 hull. But I couldn't punch the last hit through. I was also down to a couple of hull and risked k-turning through an asteroid, which put my in with an unopposed shot on Vader, who finally went down!
Win 100-80
So that put me on 4-2 overall and with an outside chance of the top 8 cut.
However once the results were announced I had finished in 9th, missing out on the cut by 21 MOV!!
I thought my list performed pretty well overall. Guri was great as always, whilst the Kihraxz always help create some havoc and distractions! However Palob was my ship of the day. His ability changes the way your opponents use there actions. Often instead of focus or evading, they would boost or target lock, which seemed to reduce damage coming my way a bit. And for my first time flying the HWK, I though I did ok with it. I'm defiantly a fan of them now!
Overall I had a great day, the day was run fantastically well as always, I played some great games and thought I played well, except for the Guri sloop in game 4. I was gutted to just miss the cut however, but I have a another store championship next weekend to try and go one step better.
