FAQ this week? Please FFG!

By gamblertuba, in X-Wing

With a 40 person Store Championship coming up this weekend, I am very curious about the street date for wave 8. If it hits before Saturday, it should be legal at the tourney. However, there might be a few sticky wickets that will need immediate clarification. For example, does tractor beaming on to rocks cause damage or not?

What are the odds that FFG comes through with an updated FAQ immediately upon the release of wave 8? What other rules clarifications do we need?

As much as I'd love to see a FAQ the same day Wave 8 is released... that doesn't seem to be typical of how FFG does things, at least not as far as I remember.

Yeah, we haven't even received an FAQ entry for Omega Leader, who has like 10 major FAQs...he was released in December. <_<

Maybe they are waiting to release an FAQ for the entire wave? Technicaly T-70 and FO are part of wave 8.

I dearly hope an FAQ comes in time. Still isn't as bad as the German one, though, our Crackshots (technicaly) still suck.

They need a FAQ update, but it won't include Wave 8 for some time yet.

Did they mess up the grammar on the German translation?

Anyone else able to think of a rules pitfall besides Omega Leader and Tractor Beams?

we have RAW for Omega L, which works just fine and requires only a little bit of digging

basically, all you gotta do is look up "Modifying Dice" and "the Golden Rules" (you = the ship the upgrade is on, Can't > everything else on upgrades, including HLC's must) in the rule's reference

no re-rolling

no adding dice results

no changing dice results

which includes omega's dice (Cannot modify any dice), so no sensor jammers, juke or r7 etc.

everything else (adding dice, removing dice canceling results etc.) is fair game

It seems like they'd probably wait for people to get their hands on models and start asking Questions before deciding which ones are Frequently Asked.

With two full weeks before the first tournament it might affect, they've got plenty of time to release the FAQ. It'll be "late" after the 18th though.

The FAQ is never late. It arrives precisely when it means to.

Omega leaders ability prevents his target locked enemy from modifying dice while attacking or defending against Omega Leader. Omega Leader does not shut down his own dice mods. Any upgrades used by him still apply. And adding dice is a modification so that is not fair game.

I dont think this is correct.

Sure, but it's frequently asked questions, not questions that have answers that no one could have figured out. The whole point is to make it easier to figure out interactions that seem tricky (to some at least). Also as pointed out, some of those statements are still in question anyway, and you didn't mention the Emperor, which has been ruled several different ways...

The addition of dice is done before the initial roll. Modifying happens after the initial roll.

"Once per round when attacking, you may either spend 1 shield to roll 1 additional attack die or roll 1 fewer attack die to recover 1 shield."

From the rule book:

2. Roll Attack Dice:
The attacker rolls a number of attack dice equal to its primary weapon value; if it is attacking with a secondary weapon, it rolls attack dice equal to the attack value on that weapon’s Upgrade card instead.

• The attacker resolves any card abilities that allow him to roll additional or fewer attack dice.
• If attacking at Range 1 with its primary weapon, the attacker rolls one additional attack die.
• All additions or subtractions to the number of attack dice being rolled occur before the player rolls the attack dice.
3. Modify Attack Dice:
The defender can resolve any card abilities that allow him to modify the attack dice. Then the attacker can modify his attack dice in one or more of the following ways as many times as possible

Edited for formatting. The rule book hates to be copied.

Wave 8 is releasing on the 17th. Any SC this coming weekend don't need to be concerned about it.

Adding dice results after you roll is a modification. Adding dice to the roll before you roll is not.

Ah,I see what he meant now. It also seems as if he was stating that the targeted ship cannot modify Omega Leader's dice. Not that Omega Leader couldn't modify his own. My mistake. Nothing new to see here folks. Move along, move along. ;D

I believe in the Mist Hunter preview they specifically stated that using the tractor beam to smash your opponent's small ships into asteroids would indeed cause damage.

They also said in a preview that you could drop a bomb using a SLAM maneuver.

The rules don't support either of those things being true.

Yeah, and the amount of wrong stuff in the initial release of the jumpmaster article was downright comical. Be skeptical of anything in the FAQs.

FAQ page 3 says a slam is executing a maneuver, so with advanced slam (which allows you to take an action after slamming provided you did not bump, this info also ocmes with the reference card in the K-wing expansion) you can drop mines with the adv slam, and the bombs can also be dropped per dropping them before you perform the maneuver, or before the slam maneuver since both require a movement dial and maneuver to be executed. Aside from the rule stating no more than 1 bomb per turn, you could theoretically drop 4 bombs from a slammed ship (using other upgrades to help it along)

long story short, read the info cards that come with ships, learn to use munitions properly, read the existing rules and FAQ and all you need to know about slam + bombs is right there.

and the bombs can also be dropped per dropping them before you perform the maneuver

Bombs are dropped after revealing your dial, not after you perform an maneuver. Before you try to correct someone you should make sure you actually know what the rules say.

You mean like this part from the FAQ...

Q: Does the SLAM action count as revealing your dial for the sake of card abilities (such as dropping a bomb)?

A: No, it does not count as revealing your dial.

But as far as that article goes... It was later edited when we pointed out they got the rules wrong.

See above, regarding the accuracy of the articles, but also... even if the asteroids don't cause damage immediately, this can still be accurate; you roll someone onto an asteroid, they take damage when they manoeuvre off it, if their template crosses it, and a crit> direct hit can make that two damage, or even a crit> major explosion > direct hit could make it 3...

I'm not saying TBs don't need FAQing pretty much the instant they're released though; there's a whole bunch from wave 8 that does, and I really hope they have an update planned soon...
