Hypothetically- What would beat an ordnance heavy meta?

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

I seriously doubt there will be an ordnance meta, in that ordnance becomes so common that you need to build entire list strategies around it. Even with all the additions, it is still less cost efficient than most other ways to boost offense. They just aren't completely pointless now. That being said, ordnance still requires ships to be in arc and often target locked. Anything that sheds or redirects target locks (Expert Handling, for example) will see more use, but generally, arc dodgers will remain effective against them. As far as secondary weapons go, cannons are still way more effective both in points and flexibility. Otherwise, I don't think you'll see much other than a shift in target priority to the ships with dangerous ordnance, which are typically not that hard to focus down.

Store championship results show us that Guidance Chips have brought ordnance into the meta. Should be interesting.

I disagreed with R2ShihTzu initially when he brought this line of thinking, but by no means did I think we would see ordnance this dominant this soon. I mean, this was LITERALLY the first weekend of store championships with it available, and it seems like UUUboat was on the top tables of over half of them.

Swarms seem the obvious choice. Whoop, we have more fighters than you have missiles. Have fun!

But once the ordnances have been launched, they have more fighters than you do have fighters :P

They get 4 hits, 95% of the time. Better to be rolling good these green dice.

4 hits less than 1% of the time? Doesn't seem very good if that's the case. :P

Sorry, couldn't resist...

Note that I do not imply that they will be dominant, but rather that they will finally be brought into the competitive scene. And this will be interesting!

I could see a possible modification card somewhere down the line something like this:

Chaff/Decoy/whatever

3-4 pt mod when you are hit by a torpedo or missile secondary weapon you may discard this card to cancel all hit and crit results.

Sooo it wouldn't totally screw over torps and missiles because you'd have to be willing to give up your mod slot and a few squad points for it. Fair for both, I think...

What beats ordnance?

I call it Ragin' Tycho and the Blount Bastard Brigade. Should be enough to PS-Kill a Contacted Scout, and then you're left with 3-4 ships against 18HP behind 2AGI. Depending on opponent target priority you might even have Tycho shrug off some early fire and have some intact Headhunters as a result. I went with Adaptability on Blount instead of VI for the sake of an initiative bid but I can see a case for simultaneous activation with him and Tycho.

But at the end of the day you get three TL->Focus+Chip Concs at a UBoat or TLT or Falcon or Palpatine, and a five-ship list to boot. Feels pretty flexible.

Can I ask a dumb question?

Guidance Chips only work if the ship has a primary attack of 3 or greater. Why are people posting lists with Z-wings, A-wings and Tie Bombers with Guidance chips?

Am I missing something *really* silly?

Update: Yeah, as it turns out, I am missing something. Guidance Chips are AWESOME. As a Tie-bomber lover, I can finally come out of the closet. And when long range seasons come out, I will be proud!

They work on any ships with torps or missiles. The att 3 and above gives you a crit instead of a hit, that's all.

It works on any ships, it's just that ships with an attack of 3 or higher get to change a dice to a crit instead of a basic hit.
