FFG Acrylic Target Locks

By binnet, in X-Wing

Okay so I have been looking all over for these (either/both sets) and I can't find them for trade or sale anywhere =( (except 1 set listed for $100 on ebay right now... (it's still unsold for a reason).

Anyone!?!?

Were they simple red and green ones like these?

cl1tf.jpgIf so, I managed to get two pairs when I bought out a former player when buying in to this game.

Both sets are very rare to see for sale. And unfortunately both usually bring around $100 on eBay. Would really like to get my hands on the 6-10 set.

The Red/Green ones go for somewhere between $50-100 on Ebay. The Blue/Red ones are more like $150-200. If you don't want to pay those prices for the official FFG ones, and you weren't playing earlier enough to win your own, then I would suggest either waiting for FFG to come out with the 3rd iteration of their acrylics, or go 3rd party.

As for the 3rd iteration, all that I can think that's left with the second iteration are the Extra Munitions, Crits, Various bombs (the new ones are on the first iteration), Cloak, and potentially the SLAM (one the first iteration) token. Considering they just did EMs, and SLAM isn't worth 2 sets of it, you're probably looking at by this time next year being onto the 3rd design set. And they've started both sets with TLs.

Yeah, these were in one of the first Season 1 Store Kits and Nationals 2014 (6-10) I want to say, so they are pretty hard to come by. Those Season 1 Store Kits were in an era of the game where no many people were playing. So anything from that time frame are really rare. The Season 1 Range Rules, These Target Locks, the Lando and Boba Card... All of those due to their rarity are pretty expensive.

I wouldn't be surprised if they put out a new set as one of the prizes for the top players at Nationals or Worlds this year. Keeps them rare enough to be desirable, and marks someone who has them as a player who is likely very good.

Well, really good or more money then sense....

Now, I have friends who paid like $300 for Lando or Boba, and good for them if that is their hobby and its important to them. For me, there is no way I could justify that purchase. But that is based on my family life, finances, so on...

Yep, that's why I quantified my statement with "likely very good." I guarantee nothing!

So I have a router and an engraver at work. I could easily make these, and make them exact if I wanted to as well. Does FFG have rules against that?

They're very small... if you do have such a router that would be a neat trick. Especially since the real ones (at least the first ones) appear "pixelated". I don't think I've seen anyone even custom make anything quite like the stuff FFG does.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by pixelated because I don't see that?

Anyways, I have access to a 5 x 12 router. All that matters is the cutting bit size, which we have small enough ones to eaisly make these. I also have access to a plastics company down the road with all the acrylic sheets I could ever hope for. I could reasonable fit ~4,000 of these on a 4x8 sheet (not like I would want to, but just saying). Then I also can use an engraver to etch out the artwork on each one. I'd just leave the masking paper on it, then spray paint white, then remove the masking, done! EDIT: I would probably engrave before routing them. Seems a lot easier. Heck, I could just use the router to engrave at the same time as routing actually.

I'm almost 100% positive I could make exact copies of these, but like I was wondering, would that be infringing upon anything of FFG's?

From what I've seen they are pretty cool about people making and selling 3rd party tokens and markers. However, I wouldn't abuse that by making exact copies of tokens they release as prize support. I think its best to come up with your own design out of respect to FFG.

If you look REALLY closely at the cuts, it almost seems like they are pixelated (little tiny squares, instead of something like a mold)

However, the community at large (not to mention FFG) is not very good with "fakes". (See the case of the clear ebay dice that sold for $100's a while ago) Even if they are for you personally. Make them close to the same shape, square off the edges or something, pull out some of the design, make the font larger, etc. SOMETHING to make them distinctly yours. Even if they are the same green and red acrylic.

Oh, most definitely. And even if I did, it would probably just be for my self. I have no interest in trying to sell these. I would also probably improve on the art design a little bit, so I guess they wouldn't be 100%

Wow, thanks for all the replies!

Only looking for the FFG ones either #1-5 or #6-10. Gonna put an ad in the trade thread as well.

I only started playing about a year ago an have managed to win al the prices that have come out since and most old ones but the TLs still escape me =)

Besides... you've got sound and recording equipment to buy... keep up the good work by the way!
